Jacob Kastrenakes, The Verge: The FCC received a record-breaking 22 million comments chiming in on the net neutrality debate, but from the sound of it, it's ignoring the vast majority of them. In a call with reporters yesterday discussing its plan to end net neutrality, a senior FCC official said that 7.5 million of those comments were the exact same letter, which was submitted using 45,000 fake email addresses. But even ignoring the potential spam, the commission said it didn't really care about the public's opinion on net neutrality unless it was phrased in unique legal terms. The vast majority of the 22 million comments were form letters, the official said, and unless those letters introduced new facts into the record or made serious legal arguments, they didn't have much bearing on the decision. The commission didn't care about comments that were only stating opinion.

Americans by and large aren't lawyers capable of putting together cogent legal analysis of telecommunications law, and prewritten form letters were widely offered to net neutrality supporters and opponents as a way to make their voice heard by the commission. The commission is required to accept and review public input. But if you were hoping that input would make a difference in the end, the FCC is now making it very clear that most letters it received didn't change a thing.

the only opinions that matter to FCC Commissioners are the dollars they will get in their post-FCC careers in the telecommunications industry.

... the commission said it didn't really care about the public's opinion on net neutrality unless it was phrased in unique legal terms. ...

So, unless you have enough spare money to hire a lawyer so you can write a comment on a FCC proposal, the FCC will ignore you.

What types of people/groups tend to have the spare money to hire a lawyer for this type of thing?

Is the FCC intentionally and blatantly ignoring the middle class and the poor in their comment system?

They have 1700 employees. They're not getting read. Anybody that thinks they can pull that off smoked more than a turkey over the weekend.

Of course they are.

They wouldn't seriously consider a letter with a legal argument either, they just need something to say to shoot down opposition to their unpopular decision.

As with communicating with your member of congress, to be heard you should write a letter on an uncut sheet of $100 bills. Better yet, write big and make it a multi page letter.

What is a commission that uses Alex Trebek-style rules?

The billionaire owners of America have already depressed working American's wages for four decades. These same billionaire douchebags are currently working hard to take our Social Security away, and to also take away our healthcare ... and now they want to take away porn?!?!

George Carlin "The American Dream" -- Best 3 Minutes of His Career

"There's a reason education SUCKS, and it's the same reason that it will never, ever, ever be fixed. It's never going to get any better, don't look for it, be happy with what you've got. Because the owners of this country don't want that.

I'm talking about the REAL owners, now. The REAL owners, the BIG WEALTHY business interests that control things and make all the important decisions -- forget the politicians. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. YOU DON'T. You have no choice.

You have OWNERS. They OWN YOU. They own EVERYTHING. They own all the important land, they own and control the corporations; they've long since bought and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the State houses, the City Halls; they've got the judges in their back pockets, and they own all the big media companies so they control just about all the news and information you get to hear.

They gotcha by the BALLS.

They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying -- lobbying to get what they want.

Well, we know what they want -- they want MORE for themselves and less for everybody else.

But I'll tell you what they don't want. They DON'T want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don't want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They're not interested in that, that doesn't help them. That's against their interests. That's right.

They don't want people who are smart enough to sit around the kitchen table and figure out how badly they're getting ------ by system that threw them overboard 30 ------' years ago. They don't want that.

You know what they want? They want OBEDIENT WORKERS. OBEDIENT WORKERS.

People who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork, and just dumb enough to passably accept all these increasingly -------- jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime, and the vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it.

From Previous Post #10 ...

And now they're comin' for your SOCIAL SECURITY MONEY. They want your ------' retirement money. They want it BACK. So they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street.

And you know something? They'll get it. They'll get it ALL from you sooner or later -- 'cuz they OWN this ------' place.

It's a big CLUB. And YOU AIN'T IN IT. You and I are NOT IN the big club.

By the way, it's the same big club they use to beat you over the head with all day long when they tell you what to believe. All day long, beating you over the in their media telling you what to believe -- what to think -- and what to buy.

The table is tilted, folks. The game is rigged.

And nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care.

Good honest hard-workin people -- white collar, blue collar -- doesn't matter what color shirt you have on. Good honest hard-workin people CONTINUE -- these are people of modest means -- continue to elect these RICH ----------- who don't GIVE a ---- about them.

They don't give a ---- about you, they don't GIVE A ---- ABOUT YOU. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU -- AT ALL. AT ALL. AT ALL. You know?

And nobody seems to notice, nobody seems to care ... that's what the owners count on, the fact that Americans will probably remain willfully ignorant of the big red, white and blue dick that's being jammed up their -------- every day.

Because the owners of this country know the truth -- it's called the American Dream ... 'cuz you have to be asleep to believe it."

The right wing hasn't learned a basic lesson the rest of us learned in kindergarten.

No two people can own the same dollar. When someone "earns" investment income or interest income it is called unearned income because it is not earned by something you did.

The thing that needs to be understood is that all income has to be created by labor. Unearned income is also created by labor but it is not given to the person whose labor earned it. It is taken from them and given to someone who did nothing to earn it.

the highest paid people among us get paid for other peoples work. The lowest paid among us actually create the most wealth but it is given to someone who gets paid for having money and cal themselves "self-made"

and now they want to take away porn?!?!

They can have my porn when they pry it from my sticky hairy palms!

Seriously though on that subject if the owners of the country are smart they will keep us in loads of free porn. You want to avoid a revolt keep the plebs happy porn is a cheap easy way to do that.

This behavior is perfectly consistent with life in an Oligarchy and contrary to the constitutional mandate to promote the general welfare. Kissing Corporate butts is what DC does, while local Governments are subservient to real estate developers. The individual or popular opinion has no voice in Government policy, except as cannon fodder or an expendable cog in an industrial wheel.
