A woman says Sen. Al Franken inappropriately touched her in 2010, telling CNN that he grabbed her buttocks while taking a photo at the Minnesota State Fair.

It is the first allegation of improper touching by Franken, who is a Democrat, while he was in office. It comes just days after Leeann Tweeden, a local radio news anchor in California, said that Franken forcibly kissed and groped her in 2006, when Franken was a comedian.

Okay, it was the State Fair; you're supposed to squeeze the fruit.

Her husband was taking a picture of the two of them. Franken pulled her closer to him for the picture. It was over in 3 to 4 seconds. The husband didn't think anything was weird about it. The wife says when Franken pulled her in for the picture his hand was on her butt instead of her hip or waist.

It seems like an accident.

Franken is happy to have an ethics committee examine the incidents.

When will we examine Roy Moore (rape) and President Trump (sexual assault and rape) incidents?

How generous of you. I hope Franken at least sends you an edible fruit arrangement.

Grabbing a woman's ass while posing for a picture is never an accident.

We don't know it was a grab, though. That's her characterization.

If it was a grab, yeah, I'd call that intentional. But people gathering together for a photo sometimes touch stuff they weren't trying to touch.

She told her husband and father about it immediately and then posted it on her Facebook page that day. Present sense impression gives it more significant weight from an evidentiary standpoint than waiting 7 years to talk about it so take that for what it is worth.

I think it's weird that she doesn't remember if she voted for Franken. That's seems like something she would remember, either way, in light of her experience with him at the fair.

He was just trying to slip in a little lie to see if he could get away with it. Probably hear it repeated on Fox News tonight.

It looks like this is the moment in history where ----------- are being outed. so beit.

Really, we should be cheering this on, no matter where the trail leads.

Now's the time to round up Trump's accusers too.

Except for Bush Senior. He tried, deranged or not, he tried...and succeeded over and over and over...

And if several more women come forward with similar tales, we'll all be concluding he's a butt grabber just like Bush 41.

A single allegation is tougher to assess.

Anyone who thinks I'd defend Franken just because he's a liberal Democrat is full of ----. My favorite stand up comic is Louis CK and one of my favorite film actors is Kevin Spacey. I didn't let that stop me from throwing them under the bus when the allegations piled up.

Degree and context matter too. An unwanted butt-grab and rape are not remotely the same thing.

An ass grab?

Are we going full puritanical?

A man touching a woman will soon be seen as assault.

All this bull from republicans in order to obfuscate and cover for Moore and Trump.

They're all a bunch of child molester apologists.

True, but that doesn't mean a butt grab is something we should just laugh off.

Bush 41 doing it multiple times at his age makes me think the people around him should be keeping him away from these situations to protect women. He's 93. He may not be in full control of his faculties any more. It would be a shame if he's remembered for this creepy stuff.

A man touching a woman without her consent for sexual gratification is sexual assault -- "non-consensual sexual touching of a person" -- and could be prosecuted as sexual battery, sexual groping, or unlawful touching.

A man touching a woman without her consent for sexual gratification is sexual assault --

And what of cases where a man touches a woman without her consent without desiring sexual gratification?

Like when you're pulling someone in closer for a photograph?

How do you prove you grabbed ass without expecting sex?

#27 | Posted by ClownShack at 2017-11-20 09:04 PM | Reply

5 over and 50 over are both speeding. But they aren't even remotely close to the same thing.

I hate that "sexual assault" is so broadly defined that an ass grab is conflated with something far worse.

The questions you ask are why a butt grab is unlikely to be prosecuted.

I think sexual assault has always been a broad term. For a long time I thought it only meant rape, but if you look up the definition that's not the case.

I'd like to see some differentiation. Based upon allegations and the strength of them, Al Franken is no Roy Moore, yet due to broad terms is being depicted as the same.

#32 | Posted by JeffJ at 2017-11-20 10:03 PM | Reply

So you're taking a photo with someone. Side by side. And you pull them next to you for the picture and walk away. How do you pull someone by the butt? That would cause them to jump off you took enough butt with enough force to pull their entire body next to you.

If he is a molester then he needs to go, but this is a little off.

One of senatorial candidate Roy Moore's accusers is apparently a fervent Democrat who has worked for the DNC as a sign language interpreter for Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden, a revelation which the Washington Post never included in its original report.
