Charles Manson, the '60s cult leader behind one of the most notorious killings in American history, died Sunday in California after a prolonged illness, officials said. He was 83. Manson -- housed at Corcoran State Prison since 1989 -- died at 8:13 p.m. local time at Kern County Hospital, the California Department of Corrections said in a press release early Monday. He'd been in failing health for months and was first hospitalized back in January, reportedly with serious gastrointestinal problems.

Manson -- who infamously wore a swastika tattoo between his eyebrows -- had spent more than 45 years in prison after being convicted of directing his "Manson Family" clan of troubled, mostly female, followers to kill seven people in California in the summer of 1969.

Charlie never got to surf...

Charlie don't surf and we think he should
Charlie don't surf and you know that it ain't no good
Charlie don't surf for his hamburger Momma
Charlie's gonna be a napalm star

Everybody wants to rule the world
Must be something we get from birth
One truth is we never learn
Satellites will make space burn

We've been told to keep the strangers out
We don't like them starting to hang around
We don't like them all over town
Across the world we are going to blow them down

Charlie don't surf and we think he should
Charlie don't surf and you know that it ain't no good
Charlie don't surf for his hamburger Momma
Charlie's gonna be a napalm star

The reign of the super powers must be over
So many armies can't free the earth
Soon the rock will roll over
Africa is choking on their Coca Cola

It's a one a way street in a one horse town
One way people starting to brag around
You can laugh, put them down
These one way people gonna blow us down

Charlie don't surf he'll never learn
Charlie don't surf though he's got a gun
Charlie don't surf think that he should
Charlie don't surf we really think he should
Charlie don't surf

Charlie don't surf and we think he should
Charlie don't surf and you know that it ain't no good
Charlie don't surf for his hamburger Momma
Charlie don't surf

Now that he's dead we can boil him down and make soap out of him.
Society should get some benefit from his existence.

Meanwhile, in hell....

Satan; 'okay, everyone take a day off, this is truly a special occasion. One of our own is coming to join us. I have spoken to the supreme being and we both agree this one is mine. He will be here as soon as judgement is officially passed.'

Hitler; 'is it Dick Cheney?'

Satan; 'Haaa Haaa Haaa, no it is not Dick, Colonel Hitler, he still has work to do, it is Charley Manson'

Minions (murmuring and commenting among themselves), 'Ooooo, ah, ya know i've always wanted to meet him....'

Satan; 'I know you are all excited, but we have a little housekeeping to do. Hitler, prepare the bridal suite....'

Hitler; 'but, but, but....'

Satan; 'there, there Adolph, you know this is my official duty... Pol Pot, stoke up the brimstone, Vladimir, cancel the three ring circus...so much to do.

Hitler; 'all this fuss and he only killed a few people, i can't imagine what it's gonna be like when Cheney gets here.'

Satan; 'I heard that, how would you like to be PFC Hitler?'

He was insane but also very manipulative. He never murdered anyone, other people did because of him. He's similar to a war general. Either way, good riddance. A bit sick to see Manson t-shirts on sale and people glorifying this sick twisted POS but that's the society we live in.

If there's a Hell, Charles Manson completely earned his place there.

Being a young kid in the early 1970s and learning about all this Helter Skelter stuff from the news was pretty messed up. The mere glimpse of Manson's mad-dog grinning face on the tube would freak me out.

This is how you do a Manson impression.

The Manson killings were one of the first news stories I started following, and sparked my interest in True Crime and serial killers.

Trying to think of something nice to say about the dead.

It is nice that he is finally dead?

Never understood the fascination. Should have just shot him and moved on.

He could have paid for his own imprisonment if they had allowed his paintings to be sold. The ones smuggled out by guards brought a fairly high price but I don't recall exactly how much.

Here is the true evil of Charlie Manson. Influence. He was a 30 odd year old convict who went out to California to get into the music business after his last release. He had talent, could play the guitar, but he was one among a flood of younger, more talented musicians who flocked to that state. He earned money the way he knew how, he pimped. Starting with pros, he branched out to young runaways, eventually controlling them completely with a lot of acid and copious amounts of grass plus sex on an epic scale. He started his "church". The rest is a result of his power and control. The control of a street wise psychopath. He wanted to start a race war and take control from the wreckage.

Manson wasn't as intelligent as some claim.

He was a BS artist who knew how to manipulate others, play music and little else.

Sam Kinison was right about crazy Chuckie.

Portrayed as Satan incarnate, he inspired others to kill for him. So deluded he thought a Swastika engraved on his forehead would impress the parole board. It sure got the MSM attention. He's been mighty famous for more than fifteen minutes.

Yet, everyone of the Presidents in our lifetimes have killed more innocent people for no good reason, except Carter. We lack the ability to introspect clearly.
