Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

US congressman Greg Gianforte misled police after his assault of Guardian reporter Ben Jacobs in May, falsely stating that Jacobs had initiated physical contact and that the "liberal media ... is trying to make a story", according to the police incident report. The records, made public on Friday, provide new details on the violent altercation that occurred on the eve of a special election to fill Montana's sole seat in the US House of Representatives. Jacobs had approached the then candidate at his Bozeman campaign headquarters to ask a question about the Republican healthcare bill when Gianforte threw him to the ground and punched him.

And they still seated him.

Apparently some congressmen have never experienced the "joy" of being in a fist fight with a man.

Bunch of pansies don't deserve to be in office.

How about we elect people who've stood their ground knowing they will suffer instead of sadists who know only what it feels like to assault those they know will lose?

What a sad state of affairs when a sack of spit like Gianforte assaults someone and wins an election.

Can't buh-lieve he lied about assaulting a reporter. What would his President think?

Oh, wait... maybe he'll get the Medal of Freedom.

At least he didn't assault a 14 year old. So he's still not the worst senate candidate for the GOP recently.

What has been the role of the Guardian, the reporters employee? Have they been AWOL? Every employer must aggressively stand by their employee when the employee is duly acting on the employer's behalf. Otherwise, employees will and should seek employment elsewhere.

Serious question: Republicans; what do you get from defending these morons? Is it all about ephemeral winning?

Yes. Republican media has built "liberals" into such monsters in the minds of republicans, that violent dangerous criminals, russian agents, and child molesters are all seen as better than liberals.

Because if those evil horrible liberals get into power, they might try to clean the air or improve healthcare or something horrible like that.

They would never phrase it so positively, obviously.

They don't even get that far (as end results might sound too good) and instead rely on dishonest presentations of doing it by "taking" from them.

Which is funny given how much is taken from them for tax cuts and, in the case of blue state "Conservatives", taxes to pay for the "Conservative" paradises of red states.

Awesome Liberal comments. The way you guys see it, the reporter Jacobs was just walking around minding his own business, maybe picking up trash and helping elderly out of their chairs when "bam" all of a sudden Gianforte comes flying out of the bushes and for no reason jumps on Jacobs and starts pummeling him. Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer and Newman talked about Keith Hernandez spitting on them.

"Gianforte subsequently pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge and was sentenced to community service, anger management classes and a $385 fine in June."

nuf said.

FISHPAW: You do know that their were witnesses who clearly state the attack was unprovoked (including a FOX News reporter). Congressman Gianforte's press agent issued a false report of the incident as well. I guess the "Fake Media" should be attacked without provocation (asking questions is not provocation). I guess some store owners need their windows broken without provocation. Ready to volunteer for the cause?

"asking questions is not provocation"

According to Social Scientist Boaz asking questions is a "challenge".

And when a Man is "challenged" it is his "basic nature" to punch you in the nose.

Especially if you are a liberal or a woman. Or even worse a liberal woman.

Boaz would probably just punch a liberal woman just because.

It's his "basic nature".

Is lying in a police report not a crime in montana?

The way you see it a sexual predator is fit for office so it's no surprise you'd fine simple assault just fine.

Just don't act like you in any way have any standards.

I see you've never fought a man and your only reference points are what you see in entertainment.

In real life a man doesn't have to be Mike Tyson to kill with a punch they just have normal strength and hit the other person right.

Or so that they land wrong, or or or.

Talk to any bouncer and you'll learn street fights aren't funny or fun and the psycho congressman could easily have MURDERED a man in cold blood in front of witnesses.
