Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, November 12, 2017

Netflix announced recently that we have entered the era of "binge-racing," in which millions of super-fans will watch an entire season of a show (ahem, Stranger Things) within 24 hours of its release. More broadly, Americans spent an average of 2.7 hours a day watching TV in 2016, four times as long as they spent socializing, according to the US Department of Labor. But what shows are actually worthy of this kind of time commitment? It's often very hard to know.

Mindhunter, Stranger Things (for those who find the '80s nostalgic), and of course Game of Thrones. I was a convert to the latter who had no interest. Girlfriend forced me to watch 3 episodes, and I was slowly hooked. Amazing plotline, imo.

Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, Westworld, Sense8, The 100.

There are a few others I've binged lately but those 5 really stand out and made me really want the next season. Sense8 though got canceled after 2 seasons but apparently they are coming out with a 2 hour finale episode to wrap up the plot.

Californication.

It used to be the old Rod Serling Twilight Zones, just for the 60's nostalgia. Lately For me "The IT Crowd" ,"Trailer Park Boys". My wife and daughter are really hooked on "Supernatural"

Yep. Have you tried Shameless?

From the descriptions, if you liked Deadwood and Justified you'll probably like Hell on Wheels, including the ending. www.imdb.com

#20 | Posted by et_al at 2017-11-12 11:43 PM | Reply

GoT (of course), West World and Narcos are the three most recent binge shows for me.

I'd forgotten about Californication and will probably go back and finish the last two seasons now that it's on my mind again.

Hell on Wheels was good... I visited the set outside of Calgary a few years ago.

+1 for The Expanse and an aggrieved mention to the late, great Pushing Daisies.

Shameless is awesome! Also Ray Donovan is a great show. Liev Schreiber is a great actor. So is William H. Macy in Shameless along with Emmy Rossum as Fiona.

Definitely. Loved that one. Timothy Olyphant was so good in that show, as was Walton Goggins (Boyd) and just about everyone else! And the writing too. Those dialogues were a little over the top at times -- practically Shakespearean -- but fun to listen to.

Sitzkrieg, the House of Cards I'm referring to is the original 1990 UK Version starring Ian Richardson as Francis Urquhart. Not the current NetFlix US Version starring Kevin Spacey. It's OK, but I got bored with the US version after the 4th series. Every Retorter should watch the original UK version--if for no other reason than to get a realistic understanding of how upper-level Machiavellian politics works.
