Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, November 13, 2017

An annual nationalist rally in Poland drew all-time high attendance Saturday as tens of thousands of young, angry demonstrators marched through the streets of Warsaw brandishing Nazi and white supremacist slogans and calling for an "Islamic holocaust." Police said the eighth annual independence day rally from the far-right National Radical Camp drew an estimated 60,000 people -- a staggering spike for an event that used to draw only a few hundred people after starting in 2009. It is now the largest independence day event in Poland and one of the biggest nationalist marches anywhere in Europe. One of its most famous would-be guests -- the American white supremacist Richard Spencer, who has at times been banned from more than 20 European countries -- did not take his invitation to the event, after the Polish government had told him to stay home.

At the march, demonstrators tossed red smoke bombs and carried banners with phrases like "White Europe," "Clean Blood," "Europe Will Be White" and "Pray for Islamic Holocaust," according to the Wall Street Journal.

Poland has one of the fastest-growing far-right movements in Europe, as nationalist groups rally against the influx of Syrian refugees to the country and the continent. The Radical Camp has told its followers on social media that the Syrian migration is part of a conspiracy between Jewish financiers and Communists to destroy the European Union with Islam, Sharia law and homosexuality.

The group considers itself the new version of a movement with the same name in the 1930s that tried to drive out Jews from Poland years before the Holocaust started.

Per CNN the number was 60,000 not 600,000. That number is high enough to be horrifying even without exaggerating it. Why engage in fakenews when the honest news is bad enough?

#17 | Posted by moder8 at 2017-11-13 11:24 AM | Reply

I'm really, really surprised by this.

When the National Socialists invaded Poland, their intent was effectively to wipe Polish society and culture off the face of the planet. Even if you were able to get 60K people together in support of something like this, how were there not millions out protesting? I can't imagine that there's a single person living in Poland today (except maybe immigrants) whose lives weren't affected by the Nazi invasion.

Can you imagine if a group of protesters in the US came out chanting Al Qaeda Slogans? I think there would be riots and violence on a scale we've never seen in this country. And Al Quaeda's attack on the US was barely a pinprick compared to what the Nazi's did to Poland.

#35 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2017-11-13 02:39 PM | Reply

On point on this topic... There is a rise of ultra nationalism going on around the globe. Europe, Russia, the US, etc. It's scary because of where it can and has lead. Nazism like Fascism that these people represent is a direct result. If you understand what happened in Germany and the rise of the Nazis you see more than a few similarities this time.

Why this Nazism in Poland since they were brutally suppressed by the Nazis? It would because of Decades of Communist Dictatorship under the USSR's control came after and that is what people alive remember. In some ways it is the opposite but not really - they were both brutal dicatorships. The poles even have their own version of the "Brownshirts" and have for years. I am not surprised by this or a lack of counter protests. Look at the government that the Poles elected. The echos of Nazi Germany are striking.

We have tendrils of it here in the US and in this Forum. I think everyone on this board knows that and recognizes it. I mean look we have a main poster on this thread who uses the handle of TonTonMacoute. Labeling himself after brutal fascist suppressionist torturers and murders that paraded around as 'police' in Papa Doc's brutal dictatorship. Sorry, but you may as well call yourself schutzstaffel. But even more importantly the comments repeatedly made by some have echos of these bigots.

"Why did they fight for the Nazis? Sure some people were with the Nazis but not that many. Mostly they fought for the same reason as so many others - do it or else."

A little further to the east, countries that had suffered under Soviet Socialism welcomed the German invaders as liberators. Germany would have actually been able to enjoy a stable, supportive base of operations against Stalin throughout Eastern Europe, had they not been burdened by an ideology that regarded the residents of those countries as being subhuman. The Soviets hade raped and destroyed all of those countries in pursuit of the socialist dream...and the residents wanted no part of it.

Yet another opportunity where Hitler and his minions contributed to the German defeat. In reality, it was the Nazis that were largely responsible for Germany's defeat. The country's military had very highly trained units and excellent equipment. Their General Officers were equally sharp. But they were hampered by incredibly poor and ineffective leadership at the national level. Like ordering an Army to hold Stalingrad to the last man. You'd don't need to be Sun Tzu to know why that's a stupid move.

Hitler's Stalingrad hold order, did have precedence behind it. The Germans had formed a cauldron around Demyansk in February 1942, which held until relieved in April 42. The biggest failure was in military intelligence which consistently reported Soviet military collapse, completely unaware of the ability of the Soviets to rebuild their armies. After the Soviets lost a 1/4 million men at the 2nd battle of Kharkov the German military thought the Soviets completely spent, which was reinforced by the massive offensives to the Volga and into the Caucuses. So given the previous 6 to 8 months it wasn't unrealistic for the Germans to think they could restore the situation. It just took a few weeks for them to come to the realization of the Soviet power

Internally, yes, but Hitler's bgreatest accomplishments early on were those he negotiated with other countries. The biggies were GBR and RUS, but he also annxed AUS and the Sudetenalnd, as well as convinced the German Disapora to support the expansion of the reich. When the bullets started flying, he was less apt a leader. And the more despreate the situation became, the crazier his decisions.

That's exactly what I was talking about. In the decade before the National Socialists attempted to wipe out the populations of those countries, the Soviet Socialsits were trying to achievbe the same goal.
