Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, November 13, 2017

Brit Bennett, Vogue: When we look back on the first year of Donald Trump's presidency, we'll recall the xenophobic policies, the perpetual shuffling of White House staffers, the rise of unabashed white supremacists, the intensifying Russia investigation. We'll think of NFL athletes taking the knee, and the misery of Puerto Ricans, only belatedly recognized by the president after Hurricane Maria. What we are unlikely to remember -- what is, to me, the most disorienting feature of this year and thus the most difficult to describe -- is how time itself has been altered.

I cannot believe, for example, that as I write this, the violence in Charlottesville happened only six weeks ago, that Trump fired FBI Director James Comey only 137 days ago, or that 59 days ago, Trump announced, over Twitter, that he was banning transgender service members from the military. Certainly, between drafting this essay and its publication, other scandals will briefly arrest national attention, soon to be forgotten by even newer controversies. And yet it's been only a year since Donald Trump was elected. In Trump Time, a week feels like a year; a year feels like a week.

From the headline I thought it was going to be an account of a typical JPW date night 🤭

Everyone has always agreed with me when I say that it seems like the passage of time is accelerating. Seems like someone has figured out a solution, or at least a way to treat the symptoms, to this problem.

More histrionics. We're a year in. 25% done. Trump has gotten next to nothing accomplished. Time is flying.

"Trump has gotten next to nothing accomplished. Time is flying".

He has lowered the discourse in the US. He has divided us in ways not seen since the 1968 when the authors mother moved to DC. He has rolled back environmental protections for our lands. He has sent hordes of incompetent managers to control our governmental offices. He has stolen a Supreme Court nominee. He is appointing under qualified, except for ideological compatibility, judges with lifetime appointments. He is allowing the .001% to have more influence in Governance than the 99% of citizens. He has shown himself to be incompetent in the most simple rules of diplomacy. He is unable to grasp the actual duties of the President and the work it takes to achieve them. He jokes and smirks about the possibility of a nuclear holocaust.

But yes it's only histrionics and we should all just relax and let him lead us unto perdition.

Yeah yeah yeah, everything you've ever experienced that doesn't give you a million dollars and fan you with the feathers of a bald eagle is racism. True racism is so overshadowed by people who think race is such a big issue. What we need is a baseline created because black people are starting to go overboard with how they think white people live. We get some cops who are --------. We get turned down for jobs for a lot of reasons other than our skillsets. We ALL go through most of the same trials and tribulations. Sure, there are places where black people shouldn't go because of ignorant racists...but if you think there are places white people shouldn't go because of ignorant racists then you are part of the problem. The impact of anything Trump has done is almost ZERO to our daily lives. Racist people have always been racist. Offensive people have always been offensive. But they aren't the same person in most cases.

Trump hasn't done anything that wasn't already there. The problem is, I can't agree with anything he does because then I'm a racist. People judge me by skin color instead of the merit of my character. Sound familiar?

True racism is saying nazis and anti nazis are equally to blame for anything.

True racism is saying there are very fine people among nazis and klansmen.

True racism is saying a judge can't be trusted because he had mexican parents.

True racism is blaming mexicans for taking jobs that were taken by robots.

Trump is truly a racist.

You might not be a racist, but if you support trump, you support a racist and you support racism. Whatever benefit you think he might bring you, you think it's worth having a racist president to get it.

Addendum -

True racism is tricking gullible voters into blaming their economic struggles on dark skinned immigrants rather than the white CEOs, bankers, and lobbyists who caused them.

In your scenario, you're being judged for supporting Trump, not for your skin color.

Don't support a racist president who spouts racist ideas if you're concerned about how you're perceived.

Heather Heyer would disagree.
