Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

President Donald Trump is showing he "can be played" by Vladimir Putin when he doesn't acknowledge Russian interference in the 2016 election, a former Central Intelligence Agency director said. "I think he's giving Putin a pass," John Brennan, CIA director under President Barack Obama, said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union." "It demonstrates to Mr. Putin that Donald Trump can be played by foreign leaders who are going to appeal to his ego and to try to play upon his insecurities, which is very, very worrisome from a national-security standpoint." James Clapper, former U.S. director of national intelligence, agreed with that assessment and said he thinks "both the Chinese and the Russians think they can play" Trump with flattery.

No, they definitely know they play him.

Duh, anybody can "play" Trump with flattery. In fact its the only way to survive as a Trump subordinate, a problem that does not concern Putin or Xi. All this "playing' is slowly transforming Trump's few good ideas into dangerous mainstream ideas acceptable to the deep State. Meanwhile, Trump is desperately "playing" key Democrats and the American middle class for fools by claiming his tax cuts are good for them. As long as Trump just "plays" and gets nothing done we can all sleep better at night. The biggest tragedy of the Trump administration to date is how he has succeeded in causing everyone to freak out and worry about him, instead of being able to live our normal productive lives. It might get much worse if his persistent belligerent talk leads to more unnecessary military confrontations (North Korea). But he might also choose to stop making life worse in Syria.

By "deep state", you must mean the permanent government. It takes, literally, millions of people to operate a government that spans a continent and has almost 350,000,000 people. Those people can't all be replaced every 4 years in an election. Nobody becomes an expert in complicated international and/or domestic affairs in 4 years. The paranoid right would prefer that the country be run by amateurs (while all the other countries in the world are run by experts). That's just dumb.

Pres Trump must be incredibly naive.

The Russian meddling in our election was a deniable covert action. "Deniable" means exactly that, i.e., Pres Putin is not going to admit to performing the action.

So now, we have Pres Trump asking Pres Putin if Pres Putin performed such an action. Does Pres Trump even expect a real answer? If not, why talk about it so publicly multiple times, and look so foolish?

But, more important in my mind, if Pres Trump really did expect an answer, that would indicate that Pres Trump would "spill the beans" on similar requests of him by Pres Putin. If he expects it of Pres Putin, why not the inverse?

In other words, it would indicate that Pres Trump would simply tell Pres Putin about US actions that may be classified, simply because Pres Putin asked.

#5, whoda, YES, but not so much your DMV, Coast Guard or Fireman. The dangerous ones are making policy behind our backs and demanding that Congress and the White House comply. They lead or play key rolls in the CIA, NSA, Pentagon, State Department....

Truman, Eisenhower and Kennedy sounded the alarm regarding their ever growing authority and spending, unaccountable to anything or anybody, as long as they hide behind the veil of "national security".

Not much is said about them in public since JFK was murdered.
