A record number of people signed up for ObamaCare in the first few days of open enrollment this year compared to the same period in previous years, several sources close to the process told The Hill. The surge in sign-ups, which was confirmed by an administration official, comes despite fears from Democrats that enrollment would fall off due to the Trump administration's cutbacks in outreach and advertising.

"The first few days of Open Enrollment for the Federal Health Insurance Exchange went smoothly," said a spokesperson for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which oversees the health-care law. "The website performed optimally and consumers easily accessed enrollment tools to compare plans and prices."

Acting Health and Human Services Secretary Eric Hargan said in a speech last week that the administration wants the sign-up period to be "as consumer friendly as possible."

Hopefully most of those signing up are healthy.

Congressional Republicans are considering ending the Obamacare individual mandate as a part of a tax reform package.

If they do, it will save the government a lot of money.
How much?

The Congressional Budget Office reported today that repealing the mandate would cut the deficit by $338 billion over the next 10 years.

Yeah and blow up the insurance market by sending premiums skyrocketing.

Government saves money but the American people get screwed.

Sounds like a great plan there, Sniper.

They forgot to subtract the missed earnings in taxes the government loses due to the uninsured dying off. Terrible plan.

That's nice. Except for one small detail.

Trump's so-called "tax reform" is going to work out about as well as the GOTP's and Trump's "Repeal and Replace" crap.

Everyone saw how the Trump and the GOTP tried to screw Americans then and nothing has changed and they are obviously just trying to screw us again.

We aren't buying it.

And their lead in the house is dwindling fast.

Considering our budget is $43,000 Billion over then next 10 years $338 Billion is not a very big savings and comes at a huge cost

Now if we stopped playing global policeman, and cut the military budget down to say Twice as much as the #2 military in China we could save $2.8 TRILLION over the next 10 years without letting people die of preventable illness or making grandma live in a chicken coop

2017 GOP to American voters: We have a great plan! We will fix that sore toe you have by shooting you in the head. Isn't that a great plan?

And the rubes vote for it.
