Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Former MLB star pitcher Roy Halladay was killed in a small plane crash off the coast of Florida, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said this afternoon. Halladay spent 16 seasons in the MLB, playing for the Toronto Blue Jays and the Philadelphia Phillies. He was an eight-time All-Star and won the Cy Young Award in 2003 and 2010. During the regular season in 2010, Halladay pitched a perfect game against the then-Florida Marlins. Later that year during the playoffs, Halladay pitched a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds. It was only the second no-hitter in postseason history.

RIP, Doc. Couldn't wait for Day 5 to watch you pitch for the Phils. He had it all: focus, command, location, aggression. One of those mighty pitchers batters dreaded to face, like Gibson, Koufax, Randy Johnson, and Nolan Ryan. Damn, what a shame.

2011 NLDS deciding game. Roy Halliday (Phillies) vs. Chris Carpenter (Cardinals). Best pitcher's duel I ever saw.
RIP, Doc.

That's the second lethal Icon crash. Pilot error or mechanical failure. Hard to crash a float plane into the ocean.

Wow it's getting ugly on the Icon Aircraft social media. Lots of finger pointing at the company for a lot of reasons.

Well, mystery solved. Video obtained by TMZ. Pilot error, he was flying like an idiot and put a wingtip into the water. That's a death sentence in pretty much any aircraft.

That's the downside to being young, rich, and retired...

That plane comes with a parachute for the air frame, is impossiable to stall and can be licensed to fly after a 10 day ...um crash course. It is supposed to be idiot proof.

It's definitely not idiot proof. It's a light sport aircraft. You can definitely stall it. All wings stall, there are no exceptions. It has FAA "spin resistance" certification, which is what happens after you already stall. The parachute doesn't help when you're 10 feet over the water. 6 airframes have been delivered to customers (only $389,000). 2 have had fatal incidents from pilot error. In the first lethal accident, the pilot flew into a box canyon thinking it opened to a lake at the end. It did not. It's not an aerobatic aircraft, the turn and climb rate was insufficient to survive that poor navigational decision.

Ignorance can be educated and crazy can be medicated but there's no cure for stupid.

There are old pilots and then there are bold pilots. But there are no old bold pilots.

A fool and his life are soon parted.

I can break the "unbreakable fishing pole" and snag the 'unsnagable" lure while not trying to do either.
I'm the guy that brings in equipment to get fixed and they say "we've never seen that happen" or "how'd you do that?"
Im that guy. I always buy the insurance.

In an Icon A5 too. An awesome little plane but this is apparently their third devastating crash or somehting like that?

3 crashes, 3 airframe losses, 2 fatalities, all pilot error. iirc, 6 or 7 of them have been delivered.

With a name like that he should have been a cowboy or an outlaw.
