Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that extreme vetting of U.S. gun owners would have made "no difference" to the Texas church shooting.

Speaking at a joint press conference alongside South Korean President Moon Jae-in in Seoul, Trump was asked by a reporter whether he had considered extreme vetting for U.S. citizens seeking to buy a gun. He replied: "If you did what you are suggesting, there would have been no difference three days ago."

At least 26 people were killed and about 20 others wounded after a gunman opened fire during a Sunday service at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. The victims ranged in age from five to 72-years-old.

The U.S. president also said the suspect might not have been stopped if the "very brave person" attempting to "neutralize" the assailant was without a firearm.

"I can only say this, if he didn't have a gun, instead of having 26 dead you would have had hundreds more dead... so that's the way I feel about it."

I heard audio of his answer, he pretty much said that a good guy with a gun killed the guy.

False. The guy killed himself.

This line too:

"The U.S. president also said the suspect might not have been stopped if the "very brave person" attempting to "neutralize" the assailant was without a firearm."

Is this idiot saying only the good people with felony convictions or mental issues should have assault rifles with 100 round magazines?

#2 | Posted by MrSilenceDogood at 2017-11-07 04:45 AM | Reply

He was vetted through NICS. The government failed, paperwork error.

It's "too soon" to talk about - forever. "Prayer works" for all the mass shootings that keep happening. A "good guy with a gun" "stopped" the shooter - after he killed 26 people. "Hundreds more" - the entire town - could be dead. Hypothetically.

One side of the argument is all based on complete fantasy.

There are some that don't think it's a complete fantasy.

Brown's mother was certain she would be next, "and her life was about to end."

"Then somebody with a gun showed up at the front of the church (and) caught the shooter's attention," Brown said. "And he left, and that was the end of the ordeal." www.cnn.com

The shooter bought a legai gun because the Airforce and the NM mental institution both screwed up and didn't put him in the "no buy" list. Convicted of a felony by the USAF and escaped from the funny farm in NM. Enforce the existing laws people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which one der? The arguement to enact more gun laws like they did in chicago? Works well there. Oh, 600 killed there this year? Move on, nothing to see there.

You're right JeffJ.

The conservatives are the ones in the adjoining states selling the guns being brought into Chicago.

good catch.

Unfortunately her account of the story is a complete fantasy:

www.google.com

As Kelley sped away in a pearl-colored Ford Explorer, Willeford knew he still had a part to play. He spotted Johnnie Langendorff's truck across the street and hailed him down.

"I said, 'that guy just shot up the Baptist church. We need to stop him," Willeford told CNN affiliate KHBS.

....

Willeford heard the commotion and ran outside with his gun as Kelley was leaving the church.

So I wonder who is lying.

Is it the good guys with the gun who rescued everyone after 26 people got killed and the guy left the building or the woman who swears they came in the church and stopped him??

#16 | Posted by MrSilenceDogood at 2017-11-07 09:21 PM | Reply

Mr.,

The woman in the church was speaking from her perspective. Once the shooter was engaged by the hero, he left the congregation so it was over for her. She had no idea what happened after that until after she either was told about it or read about it.

According to their account he left and then they confronted him.

That's not the same as her story, she says they confronted him and then he left.

Someone isn't telling the truth.

Conflicting reports from the same news source, CNN. So, I wonder why you masked that with the google link.

Also, you mischaracterize what Brown said. It was nothing close to "they came in the church and stopped him??[sic]"

The hero wasn't gonna take a chance engaging the perp in the middle of a shooting spree. That's dangerous.

Way safer to hunker down and blast him when he came out the door.

Even then the rifle armed NRA instructor couldn't stop him from getting in his truck and speeding away.

I copied the link directly from the browser on my phone. I don't know why it came out the way it did.

You seem to think I was up to no good though.

I'd have to say that says more about you than it does about me.

Oh, and I guess she simply said they came to the church and stopped him, not that they came in.

They still say he left on his own and that the guy who was outside with taking cover behind a truck.

Someone isn't telling the truth.

So what is it in the background of the heroes here that would have prevented them from getting guns if they were subject to some vetting?

Are they the good kind of convicted felons?

So a guy hiding behind a truck outside made a guy inside stop shooting?

I didn't say that. I said he was waiting for the guy to come outside so he could shoot him from cover.

I'm fairly certain the nut doing the shooting was finished, and had no idea what he was going to do next, other than off himself somewhere.

That's kind of what I have been saying the entire time.

You're not one of those people who has think it was their idea in order for it to be ok, are you?

I'm not sure what you mean, so I'll go with no.

My opinion is the hero heard the shooting, figured out what was going on, and planned on shooting the perp when he had a chance without taking any personal risk to himself.

#26 | Posted by REDIAL at 2017-11-07 10:13 PM | Reply

How does one confront a guy that just shot 50 people and not take personal risk to himself?
That's either clumsily worded, or extremely stupid.

Take cover a hundred meters away or so, wait until he stopped shooting, came outside, and was facing the other direction?

I never said he confronted him... he just shot at him, rather ineffectively.

"I can only say this, if he didn't have a gun, instead of having 26 dead you"

Only in Trumpworld is 26 dead winning completely glossing over the point that with extreme vetting the gunman might not have had the weapon to murder 26 in the first place.

When Congress decided that 20 dead five years was not enough to even discuss any rational ways to stop this America lost its moral compass.

Charlatans like to say that homosexual marriage was the defining point, but ignoring the execution style murder of 20 babies so gun fetishists can polish their weapons was it.

Describe exactly what "Extreme Vetting" is supposed to be when the government can't even report to itself accurately.

The president has already said he likes it when good felons can buy assault rifles, 100 round magazines, and unlimited ammo.
