Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Gary wasn't used to being around people. He didn't like being touched or even looked at. If anyone came too close, he'd lash out. He was perfect for the job. Because at the Working Cats program, no manners is no problem. Philadelphia's Animal Care and Control Team established the program about four years ago to place unadoptable cats -- the biters and the skittish, the swatters and the ones that won't use a litter box -- into jobs as mousers at barns or stables. The shelter recently expanded the program to move cats that were less-than-ideal pets into urban jobs at places like factories and warehouses as a sort of green pest control. The animals are microchipped, vaccinated and free of charge.

Good kitties! Many are probably feral, from the description. Feral cats DO NOT like being around people, as they are seen as distractions who might eat the cats food. Feral cats generally are pretty focused killers, and the best are females who have produced a litter.

For rats, a terrier is great to have, with a Jack Russell probably the best. They will kill a cat on sight, seeing them as a competitor for food. Jacks are completely fearless around rats and the more the better...

One of my friends had Jack Russell terriers, and you are right, absolutely fearless.

and stupid... kicked one real good during my morning walk today. and it came back for more. Took out my ppk, pulled out the slide and hammer and pointed. Was about to release the safety when I heard an hysterical women cry out.

Told her to secure her pooch or next time she'll have to scrape it off the sidewalk.

What's wrong with you dog owners?

Do you assume people walking by on the sidewalk don't mind being bitten?

I guess it's kinda funny elsewhere to let the dog out and watch the pedestrians run.

Things are a little different here in Texas. Pedestrians down here also bite.

You don't have to have Jack Russells to kill rats. Cats can do the job. We had one that would go hunting in the pastures and kill big field rats.

I had a Jack that carried a ppk. He could kill whatever he wanted.

Simply shooting the obnoxious bitch or cur is the ------ way out of it. A real man using exceptional legerdemain grabs the offending pooch by its head with one hand and the body with the other and thereby twists its head right clean off.

If you do it fast enough and with enough savoir faire, the decapitated head will still bark for several seconds after the coup de grâce.

Some practitioners call it the "afterbark."
