Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, November 01, 2017

Russian bots and trolls on Twitter have stayed plenty busy lately. In the days before charges against three former Trump campaign officials were unsealed on Monday, Russian influencers tracked by the Hamilton 68 dashboard were pushing stories on Twitter about "collusion" between Russia and Hillary Clinton -- a narrative regarding a 2010 sale of uranium rights that has long since been debunked. According to the nonpartisan security research project, a week's worth of tweets from late October turned up a wave of content with "some variation on a theme of corruption, collusion, cover-up by the Clinton-led State Department and/or the Mueller-led FBI," as well as content attacking special counsel Robert Mueller and former FBI Director James Comey.

And since Friday, when news reports made clear that the special counsel's team was moving ahead with indictments, the dashboard began registering a sharp increase in attacks specifically against Mueller. ...

"You can launch a disinformation campaign in the digital age and then all evidence of that campaign can just disappear," says Samantha Bradshaw, a lead researcher in Oxford University's Computational Propaganda Project, which found that battleground states were inundated with fake news and propaganda from Russian sources in the days before Trump was elected.

What I adore is an American election system free of foreign interference.... something that was once shared by rwingers, well, until said interference helped elect their dumbass President.

At this point, Russian trolls aren't about hating Hillary; they are about protecting Trump by deflecting to her.

Comrade,

Setting aside the fact that the original opposition research was started by the GOP and was perfectly legal (unlike colluding with the Russians to undermine our elections) .

How exactly did the "Pee-Pee dossier" play a part in the elections being as how it was never released to the media until AFTER the elections?

Take your time and consult with the Russian General Staff Main Intelligence Directorate, or GRU (wait... why am I telling YOU that? YOU know who they are.) if you need to get the correct wording of your reply.

Oooh you told me. Maybe instead of retorting, you should pay more attentions to the hearings. Russians changed tactics after the election. They are doing a remarkable job at fueling partisan hacks on both sides and turning them into their stooges. 2018 elections are going to be interesting to say the least.

It's been debunked repeatedly.

It has?

Politico didn't mention that the journalist it quoted smearing the Wall Street Journal works for Fusion GPS. That seems a curious omission for a piece criticizing the media outlet for not following everyone else's lead in downplaying the group's significance

thefederalist.com

It seems that those who are doing the debunking have ties to Fusion GPS and the MSM parrots their claims without a hint of skepticism and they surely go out of their way to NOT mention said ties when reporting these claims.

"Facebook general counsel Colin Stretch told a Senate Judiciary panel that content generated by a Russian troll farm known as the Internet Research Agency after Nov. 8 centered on "fomenting discord about the validity of [Trump's] election." That's a change from Russia's pre-election activity, which was largely centered on trying to denigrate Hillary Clinton, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said in a January report."

""During the election, they were trying to create discord between Americans, most of it directed against Clinton. After the election you saw Russian-tied groups and organizations trying to undermine President Trump's legitimacy. Is that what you saw on Facebook?" Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) asked at the hearing.

Stretch and his Twitter counterpart, Sean Edgett, called that an "accurate" statement."

So yeah, Russians changed tactics specifically to continue fomenting political division in the US. This should not even be a surprise. It does make the finger pointing over whom is and whom are not Russian stooges very darkly comical.

Also from the above:

"James Lewis, an international cyber policy expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said the revelation about Russian anti-Trump activity on social media post-election fits with typical Kremlin information-warfare efforts. "Their goal is to create confusion and dissent. The target is the U.S. and NATO, not any particular candidate. They just want chaos," Lewis said. "It went from being a grudge match against Clinton to what they thought was a priceless opportunity to inflict harm.""

There is a solution to government sponsored trolls. Every post has an IP address, those address prefix codes tell the source country. Sometimes even with it is reentered to an other computer. But there are plenty of hacks that will follow any scrip for pay in this country. Counter intelligence within the US is the responsibility of the FBI. When a government sponsors trolls it is usually a belligerent act attempting to cause civil unrest. I wonder what priority that agency places upon this sort of attack? I hope the NSA has their ears on.
