Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, October 30, 2017

The Cowboys' Jerry Jones was a leading voice among 17 NFL owners on a conference call Thursday that discussed the possibility of halting commissioner Roger Goodell's pending contract extension, sources involved with the call told ESPN. ... The owners on Thursday's conference call are generally unhappy with Goodell and the NFL's front office for a variety of reasons, including the player protests staged during the national anthem, issues regarding the relocation of teams to Los Angeles and the league's handling of the Ray Rice domestic violence case, according to sources. "You don't get to have this many messes over the years like Roger has had and survive it," one owner said during the call.

They really just PO'd about the protests is the bottom line. It's affecting the bottom line of billionaires and they can't have that.

Changing Commissioners would be like rearranging the lounge chairs on the Titanic. So long as the owners themselves are stupid enough to refer to the players as "inmates" and give conflicting signals about the National Anthem protests it won't matter who the commish is. We really are seeing a time of reckoning in both the NCAA and the NFL. These institutions are changing, whether most of us are paying attention or not.

Get rid of the anthem. Problem solved.
I mean you wont get any more marketing money from the military for helping them trick gullible young men into surrendering their lives anymore, but the controversy would be over.

There is ZERO reason the national anthem should be played at sporting events, other than nationalistic brainwashing for military recruitment.

Sports are not government events. They are private corporations putting out entertainment products. The national anthem doesn't belong in them any more than it belongs before the next star wars movie.

Mod - you may be under estimating the players hatred for Goodell. They view him as treating them very unfairly. Firing him may be seen by them as a step in the right direction.

Although it has been reported that in recent meetings he's been much more receptive to listening to players than the owners are. That is probably what this is all about.

My understanding is that Jerry's big issue is that Goddell's contract is not incentive based at a time when the NFL is losing viewership over the last 2 years.

The fact they pay him a gazillion dollars may be factoring into dumping him as well.
Dogs gotta eat!!!

Jerruh Jones doesn't care about the anthem protests, he's trying to get Rog fired/not extended because he gave his woman beating running back a 6 game suspension. With Jones is always all about him and his team, end of story.

6 game suspension will happen starting this week, bite it Jerruh!

You can always tell when someone has Cowboys Derangement Syndrome. It comes from living in the NE... and losing to them SO often.

I understand your a Cowboys fan, but are you really defending Jerry Jones and/ or Elliott?

I'm a die hard Texans (Oilers) fan, but would never rebuke the critic of the words of Bob McNair by referring to them as a Texans hater. That was some questionable ---- McNair said. Nor those wanting the suspension of Brian Cushing. Cushing deserved it.

I choose to continue to support my team and not the behavior of some associated.

I believe your better than the "You just jealous" response.

- not the behavior of some associated.

Elliot was never charged... for the same reason the NFL's lead female investigator advised no suspension, but wasn't allowed to even attend the NFL meeting that decided on the suspension. The witness and supposed victim wasn't credible to police, the local DA, or the NFL investigator.

But this case hasn't been about the facts... there may be a trial about the facts of the case next year. This is now about whether the Goodell gets the run the show with what he thinks he got in the agreement with Players.

And the courts have sided against the NFL... this same court upheld Brady's suspension... while the Players Assoc and Goodell use this case as a test and a standard of precedents for future law cases and future agreements.

So, yeah, you are right. I am better than the "You just jealous" response, I know what I'm talking about.

I've always enjoyed this guy's opines.

Nevermind. Jerry was on the radio this morning and he wants Goodell gone.

The Elliot suspension is highly questionable at best.

But so is the idea that people are jealous of a team that hasn't won a playoff game in decades.

Jerry Jones is a well documented asshat. Although the hooker pics are hilarious.

And Goodell is worse.

#14 | Posted by Sully at 2017-10-31 10:58 AM | Reply

should be: the courts have sided with the NFL

- he wants Goodell gone.

As do about half of the owners.

@ cowboys fans, you don't need to commit a crime to be suspended, but then again you knew that. Stop beating up girlfriends, problem solved.

- Stop beating up girlfriends

I guess you missed the part where no one buh-lieved that other than Goodell, not the police, not the DA, not even the NFL's own female lead investigator who advised no suspension.

Zeke is overrated anyway. Corky could average 4 yards a carry behind that line. Alfred Morris is a good back and will do just fine so long as Garrett doesn't panic and abandon the run, as is his tendency.
