The Trump administration is three weeks late on Russia sanctions. But it's killed the office that coordinates them. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson eliminated the Coordinator for Sanctions Policy office, which had been led by a veteran ambassador-rank diplomat with at least five staff, as part of an overhaul of the department, former diplomats and congressional sources told Foreign Policy. Instead, the role of coordinating U.S. sanctions across the State Department and other government agencies now falls to just one mid-level official -- David Tessler, the deputy director of the Policy Planning Office. The Policy Planning Office, which previously operated as a small team providing strategic advice to the secretary but did not manage programs or initiatives, has grown in power under Tillerson's "redesign" of the department.

The sanctions office was dissolved after the administration missed a key Oct. 1 deadline to implement new penalties against Russia adopted by Congress in August. The move has reinforced concerns among both Democratic and Republican lawmakers that the Trump White House is mismanaging the State Department and undercutting the role of U.S. diplomacy.

The "elimination of the sanctions coordinator appears to be part of the larger reorganization debacle underway at the State Department," said Sean Bartlett, spokesman for Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

I would say that Trump thinks he's king, but in reality Trump thinks he's Putin, and so far, the Republican party has allowed him to march on his merry authoritarian way.

All Trump needs now to be Putin is his own tv network, a cut of all deals made in the country, and Pres for Life status. And he's werking on all those things.

Once again they don't even bother to hide their contempt for America, and the rubes lap it up.

We have a President owned by Putin, even Republicans should realize it is time to impeach this traitor. NOt surprising since Mueller is closing in on this traitor. Expect Mueller will be fired and other desperate attempts to remain in office, I ask now, where is the patriotism of the Republicans? Apparently, it doesn't exist and that definitely includes all of y'all who voted for them, don't even think you are innocent. I remember when selling out your nation was a despicable crime, what is wrong with you people today?

IMHO, Democrats are going to be forced to boycott elections. As long as we continue to participate the Republicans can pretend that the elections are legitimate. Only by boycotting can we demonstrate that elections in the United States are just as corrupt as they are in Russia. If Putin is going to be our real President, let's at least acknowledge that we understand Trump is a puppet. A stupid puppet but still just a puppet. How can any American support this?

#7 then the RepubliKlans will have achieved their ultimate goal, to suppress all voters who vote for Democrats. Better to make sure ALL voters have what's necessary to vote, and flip Anonymous some money to try to unhack what the Russians will be doing!

Because he will sign their tax cuts into law. That's all they (i.e., their donors) really care about. Well, that and getting rid of all regulations that get in the way of maximizing the profits of the big corps. They famously said that their only qualification for a president was somebody who could "use a pen". That's what they've got. They don't care about America, the flag, the troops, "life", "family values", or anything else they use to rally their dupes. Notice they never actually solve any of the problems they constantly bitch about. That would keep them from using them to raise money from these rubes.

Or Democrats can help people participate and drive them out.
