Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The Russian military hackers behind last year's election meddling are using an upcoming cyber warfare conference in Washington D.C. as a lure to infect a new crop of victims with malware, security researchers said Sunday, effectively turning a high-level gathering packed with NATO and U.S. military cyber defenders into an opportunity for more attacks. The new campaign by the hackers known as Fancy Bear and APT28 began in early October, when the hackers began spamming out a flier for next month's International Conference on Cyber Conflict, or CyCon U.S. Hosted by the U.S. Army and a NATO cyber defense institute, the gathering features speakers like former NSA chief Keith Alexander, Gen. Paul Nakasone, who leads the U.S. Army Cyber Command, and Senator Martin Heinrich, a prominent Kremlin critic on the Senate Intelligence Committee's investigation into Russian election meddling.

The Russian hackers' flier for the event is a Microsoft Word document named "Conference_on_Cyber_Conflict.doc". It contains the logos of the conference organizers and a sponsor, and text copied from the conference website touting the 2017 theme, "The Future of Cyber Conflict." But Russia isn't distributing the document to boost attendance. Buried inside is a malicious macro that downloads and installs malware called Seduploader, a Fancy Bear reconnaissance program that lets the hackers take screenshots and gather basic system information to decide if the victim is worth spying on long-term.

Sunday's report from Cisco comes two days after the Department of Homeland Security issued an alert on another Russia-linked hacking group known as Dragonfly and Energetic Bear that's been targeting control system operators at U.S. energy firms since May. "DHS has confidence that this campaign is still ongoing," the Friday alert read, "and threat actors are actively pursuing their ultimate objectives over a long-term campaign."

Russia-Linked Hackers Breached 100 Nuclear and Power Plants Just This Year

A series of sophisticated computer intrusions at electric companies and nuclear-plant operators this year has been traced back to a hacking group called "Dragonfly" and "Energetic Bear" that's been previously linked to Russia, according to a new report from the computer-security company Symantec, which has seen about 100 such breaches since the start of the year, half of them in the U.S.

Sounds exactly like what we did to Iran. A no-hack international treaty should be initiated.

Don't worry. Trump will reduce the sanctions to punish them.

I'm in a Cyber Course at my University. We were talking about this very thing. Keeping it implemented and getting signatories to sign on to not putting logic bombs into other countries networks during peace time is a problem.

But something like the nuclear treaties for cyber is needed.

what this demonstrates is how spectacularly uninformed our elected officials are. they are
totally involved in issues that directly affect their ability to be re elected. and that's about it.

The Russia hoax continues, now it's ads on Facebook. What about the totally biased and dishonest Media coverage in favor of Crooked Hillary?
3:44 AM - Sep 22, 2017

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

The greatest influence over our election was the Fake News Media "screaming" for Crooked Hillary Clinton. Next, she was a bad candidate!
4:26 AM - Sep 22, 2017

"No, Russia did not help me, that I can tell you, OK?" Trump said.
"Are there any Russians in the audience, please?" he asked. In a jab at rival Hillary Clinton for losing a key state, said he "didn't see many Russians in Pennsylvania."
"Honestly, it's the thing they did best," Trump said of Democrats. "They did a rotten job of running, but they convinced people about this hoax. That was probably the thing that they did best, but it was one great hoax." --DJT Sat September 23, 2017

The worst part about this idiot crying wolf over the "biased" media is that all the mainstream networks -- all of them -- were heavily biased in his favor.

#10 They were trying to catch him in a gotcha.

Every media outlet had no less than 4 dweebs sifting through every single word he uttered in an attempt to clear the way for The Coronation.

It backfired in their face.

Once Trump won the GOP primary the MSM coverage of him was almost exclusively negative.

It backfired. After watching the MSM savagely go after Sarah Palin and then parrot DNC talking-points and literally paint Mitt Romney (a decent man) as a sociopathic monster people concluded that this was the treatment that all Republican candidates receive and it became a "Boy Who Cried 'Wolf'" scenario.

Yes, they thought it was Hillary Skywalker's destiny to become Jedi President. And when you have destiny behind you, who needs to campaign for the last month of the election? Result: Darth Trump is POTUS. Thanks a lot, Dumbocrats! :)

Too bad idiots support a treasonout president who refuses to even admit russian hacking is a problem, and who is weakening the agencies designed to protect us.

That's not a conspiracy. He behaved horribly. He bragged about sexual assault, was clearly clueless about policies, and lied at every opportunity.
Any objective person treated him negatively. He demanded it.

It was the press's DUTY to let americans know the man is a dangerous monster. Problem is, too many americans were too stupid to care. And some of the press refused to do that duty, because they think tax cuts are worth having a monster in charge of the most powerful country on the planet.

Conservative media who DIDNT cover trump negatively already have blood on their hands.

You may not have been paying attention in '15 and '16 but if trump was treated fairly, he wouldn't be POTUS today.

See my #16. The mental distortion you kids have to due is insane. Trump's coverage was negative because of his own action. The media however suppressed all of it while elevating others' "scandals" to greater importance. Any other person would have been eviscerated by the media for committing 10% of the atrocities trump had, instead, for instance, his pedophile tendencies were equated to John Podesta ordering a pizza for kids at a pool party. Keep fooling yourself though!

The MSM did everything they could to setup a Clinton vs. Trump, so that it would be 'easy pickins' for the Great Coronation.

It tragically backfired. The MSM and DNC gave us Trump.

Now their plan is to "scream towards the sky" to commemorate their stupidity. mashable.com

#18 | Posted by SheepleSchism

20 years of fox news lies gave us trump. 20 years of telling people not to believe the media. 20 years of bigotry. 20 years of demonizing democrats and the clintons.

The DNC played their role, but so did all the stubborn babies saying the dems are just as bad as the repubs so why bother voting. If those babies had voted for clinton, they would have avoided making a lot of the issues they care about grow WORSE.

- If those babies had voted for clinton...

They would have voted for a corrupt Russian puppet.
