Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, October 22, 2017

Almost a year after New Yorker Jessica Leeds and other women stepped forward with harrowing accounts of being sexually assaulted by a powerful man, another scandal with similar elements exploded. Only this time, the punishment was swift and devastating. "It is hard to reconcile that Harvey Weinstein could be brought down with this, and [President] Trump just continues to be the Teflon Don," said Leeds, who claims she was groped 30 years ago on a plane by the man whose presence she cannot escape now that he sits in the Oval Office. In Florida, Melinda McGillivray was having much the same reaction. "What pisses me off is that the guy is president," McGillivray, who a year ago went public with allegations that Trump grabbed her at Mar-a-Lago in 2003 when she was 23. "It's that simple."

Why Did Dotard Get Away With What Weinstein Did Not?

Because Democrats always bring a knife to a gunfight. Republicans never make that mistake.

"Until then, your #1 is potentially libelous."

Trump threatened to sue his accusers after the election; so far he hasn't. Trump under oath in a sexual harassment/assault case? Not if he can help it.

Danni,

"Because Trump promised to lift up the working class, he could have been an axe murderer and they would still support him."

Maybe he meant it but everyone is fighting him.

Can you honestly say you know his true motives.

Just like the GOP did to Clinton, you're fixated on his personal sex life.

Clinton was a scum bag but that was no reason to make his job as president harder.

I think we all know it distracted him from dealing with other problems.

Poll: Most believe Weinstein accusations but doubt Trump allegations
thehill.com

A new poll finds that a majority of Americans who identify as Republican believe the sexual harassment and assault allegations against Hollywood film mogul Harvey Weinstein are credible, but few believe similar allegations against Trump.

The HuffPost-YouGov poll found that 61 percent of Republicans and 69 percent of Democrats believe the allegations against Weinstein are credible.

Three percent of both Democrats and Republicans surveyed said the allegations against Weinstein were not credible.

When asked about allegations against Trump, just 18 percent of Republicans believe they are credible, versus 69 percent of Democrats.

Four percent of Democrats said the allegations against Trump were not credible compared to 37 percent of Republicans.

Why do people who call themselves Republican believe the allegations against Weinstein?

It can't be because Joe-6-pack diligently reads TMZ.com or faithfully watches celebrity gossip on E! News TV ...

It's because of the overall disciplined right-wing messaging that characterizes and amplifies the negative Hollywood stereotypes from all right-wing media sources that Joe-6-pack consumes on a daily basis.

And when these right-wing media-organs get specific, they never hold back.

Democrats, on the other hand, are pretty much the opposite in that they often struggle with staying on message, they don't have the juggernaut like Fox News, and when they get specific the don't go for the jugular.

The Billy Bush tape should have disqualified Trump amongst a way larger percentage of white women and made inroads with evangelicals but failed to do so because Democrats don't ever talk to these groups on their terms.

If you're going to persuade people, you got to show toughness and convey that you'll fight for their values and beliefs -- not just give high-minded answers.

aka, bringing a knife to a gunfight.

That was still an hurdle that could've been overcome ... it still boils down to messaging and talking to people on their terms -- Republicans are good at this, Democrats are not.

How do Republicans feel about Ailes and O'Reilly? My guess is they don't believe those allegations either:

'Outrageous:' Gretchen Carlson and others react to new Bill O'Reilly revelation

"I think it's horrifying and outrageous."

On CNN's "Reliable Sources" Sunday morning, Gretchen Carlson summed up how a lot of people felt about the latest revelation involving Bill O'Reilly and sexual harassment allegations.

The New York Times reported on Saturday that O'Reilly paid $32 million to a Fox News colleague who threatened to sue him for alleged sexual misconduct.

If this move gains traction, it would be bad news for O'Reilly and Trump as well:

New York Lawmakers Target Non-Disclosure Clauses in Wake of Harvey Weinstein Scandal

Two New York lawmakers are leading an effort to void the type of non-disclosure agreements that for years kept accusers of Harvey Weinstein from going public with allegations of sexual harassment.

The most recent version of the legislation, sponsored by State Sen. Brad Hoylman and Assemblywoman Nily Rozic, both Democrats, would make null and void any provision that had the effect of concealing claims of harassment, as well as other labor violations, like discrimination, retaliation, and non-payment of wages. It also includes claims that are submitted to arbitration, a process that often is covered by confidentiality provisions.

This has been the game played by the "landed gentry" from the time the first slaves were brought to the English colonies.

Trump's treatment of women as far as what people who have actually dwelt with him is actually pretty good. He is weird, total gremaphobe, extreme clean freak. Does not like to shake hands. Very much a one woman man. He is a perfectionist. He strives for perfection in his personal relationships.Very demanding. We have had some strange ducks in the office; TR, JFK, Nixon, Bill, BHO ETC. We survived.

We aren't digging very far into the past, actually. We're comparing events of the last year or two, so how about we stick with current events. Feel free to defend your side by deflecting blame and hunting for comparisons in the past, though. Why not go all the way back to George Washington? The what aboutism is strong with not-liberals.
