Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, October 22, 2017

For years, the Environmental Protection Agency has struggled to prevent an ingredient once used in stain-resistant carpets and nonstick pans from contaminating drinking water. The chemical, perfluorooctanoic acid, or PFOA, has been linked to kidney cancer, birth defects, immune system disorders and other serious health problems. So scientists and administrators in the E.P.A.'s Office of Water were alarmed in late May when a top Trump administration appointee insisted upon the rewriting of a rule to make it harder to track the health consequences of the chemical, and therefore regulate it. The revision was among more than a dozen demanded by the appointee, Nancy B. Beck, after she joined the E.P.A.'s toxic chemical unit in May as a top deputy. For the previous five years, she had been an executive at the American Chemistry Council, the chemical industry's main trade association.

The E.P.A.'s abrupt new direction on legacy chemicals is part of a broad initiative by the Trump administration to change the way the federal government evaluates health and environmental risks associated with hazardous chemicals, making it more aligned with the industry's wishes.

It is a cause with far-reaching consequences for consumers and chemical companies, as the E.P.A. regulates some 80,000 different chemicals, many of them highly toxic and used in workplaces, homes and everyday products. If chemicals are deemed less risky, they are less likely to be subjected to heavy oversight and restrictions.

#1 - Parties are both the same? Even after all of this?

The black and white view like this is how Trump gained and will keep power.

If you have a solution that doesn't involve both major parties, then go ahead and build it into a viable candidate. Until then, people will literally be dying so you can be a pompous privileged elitist snob.

I'm more and more disgusted by the Liberals who support Trump than I am by the dummies who voted for Trump directly. Maybe there is no difference between them.

What liberals for Trump are you referring to? I've never heard of them, btw, but I have heard that tired meme blaming people who didn't vote for Hillary as giving Trump the election. Is that what you are intimating as "support"?

Are you confusing imported NAZI with the peaceful local protestors they murder?

While I can't read the entire article I'll just presume you mean the EPA is liberal and by installing a pro-American Chemistry Council executive will poison off conservatives faster?

Nancy B. Beck does not seem very liberal - but the first 10 substances for review include asbestos which Trump claims has gotten a "bad rap". So, maybe the Trump EPA will find that of the 85,0000 chemicals controlled being shrunk down to 30,000 in this newer, streamlined rubber stamp process, that asbestos is perfectly safe after all!

Back to the 50's!

In the EU every chemical or drug must be proved safe before being marketed to the public. Their tough rules was a reaction to the thalidomide disaster. Before Trump or the EPA ever came along thousands of chemicals in the USA were grandfathered as marketable without any testing. Sine the EPA was established safety testing has been largely in the hands of the manufacturers. But there are mechanisms for taking anything dangerous off the market, a battle which can take anywhere from 2-50 years.

Under Pruitt and Trump a weak system for protecting our health will be broken.

Sorry you feel differently - but the truth is that Trump was positioned and not by "liberals". Is it the NAZI reference or that Trump loves asbestos?

#7 Voter apathy among Liberals contributes to wins by conservatives.

Failure of leftists to accept "good enough" or "better than the alternative" or even, "get anyone in who will listen to leftist voices", is holding back a progressive agenda.

We can't expect to win until we expect to win. The first step is to decide that even standing in the same spot for a few years is better than moving backward.

This article is a good example of how the failures of the left to engage and win decisively is going to result in the deaths of Americans.

We have to take personal responsibility to get it right. Too many on the left are just whining and complaining and being belligerent to make a point without any point.

Yeah but democrats believe in fighting climate change and keeping poisons out of our products.

So it shouldn't be a hard choice.

This is what happens when people refuse to vote for the lesser evil - the greater evil wins:
