White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, criticizing Florida Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, misrepresented a 2015 speech she made at the opening of a new FBI building, an exclusive South Florida Sun Sentinel video of her speech shows. ... Kelly then continued his criticism of Wilson, mentioning the 2015 dedication of the Miramar FBI building, saying she focused in her speech that she "got the money" for the building. Wilson said Kelly's comment was a fabrication, that she wasn't even elected to Congress when the funding for the building was approved. A Sun Sentinel video of the event supports Wilson's version of the events.

Just like Trump did.

The WH Press 'briefing' by that despicable S Huckabee stuck to Kelly's lie.

Kelly's disgusting presentation told me so much about him. What a lying, scum bag. He disgracing the uniform he wore and the Corps he served for so many years.

I genuinely though well of him before his dehumanizing "empty barrel" tirade.

What a horrid little man.

Don't be too hard on General Kelly. Feel sorry for him. Like so many before him, he stepped into the bottomless pit. It's the beginning of the end of his credibility which has now been sacrificed on the alter of Donald Trump.

He's been snared, boxed into a corner and will eventually be stabbed in the back. He just doesn't know it yet. That's no way for a Marine to go down. Poor guy.

We knew ye when.

I am particularly disgusted by his decision to talk about walking in Arlington and the death of his son along with all of these lies and derogatory statements.

I don't know why conservatives choose these people as their representatives.

Did I just answer my own question?......

General Kelly would be wise to take note of what happened to General Colin Powell who was also placed in a compromising position in front of the United Nation ~ only to be stabbed in the back by George W. Bush who had no respect for the uniform (himself having disgraced the only one he ever wore), and who saw loyalty as a one way street.

There's a pattern here. I wonder if Kelly can see it.

What choice did he have, other than to break his own code of ethics. He fell on the sword for his Commander-in-Chief who was too cowardly to admit his own lies. I suppose Kelly saw that as an obligation that comes with the job. He tried to take the bullet for Trump and perhaps even humanize him. Which we all know is a fools errand.

I think maybe he is confused as to what he is supposed to be faithful to.

It was probably Trump's tone. Cold and flat. Trump's not used to talking nice to a black person and especially not to a black woman. Trump is so empty that her son didn't mean any more to him than a fly on a wall.

You still gotta feel sorry for Kelly, though. He stepped into Trump's world of toxic waste which is unbecoming to a man of his stature. At the very least, I hope he has nightmares for a while. He showed a weakness in his character that sort of came as a surprise to all of us. However, his biggest problem is that Trump has his number now he'll use it against Kelly like he uses everybody else.

The general also engaged in a violation of UCMJ article 88 and 133. Apparently we almost never actually charge retired officers of anything but given hat he holds a vital federal office and that he is there almost entirely due to his reputation in uniform he should be called to answer fornthese serious isolations of the code that uniform represents. He is he single most visible Marine in the United States and he just diminished what that means.

I may be using the wrong terminology to describe the article numbers. My cursory reading on the subject indicated that you don't say the first digit (the 8 or the 9) when citing UCMJ provision, I am admittedly not a lawyer or a veteran and could be entirely wrong ...I just started googling after another retired officer I work with brought it up.

Let's look at it this way. Maybe Kelly didn't know he was lying. However, if GENERAL Kelly didn't have the presence of mind to do a thorough reconnaissance before taking aim at the Congresswoman with his return fire, I'm having serious doubts about how those 4 stars ended up in on his shoulders.

Politics at the Pentagon? Oh, no. Say it ain't so. But we all know better, don't we? Jus' saying.

I expect Trump to fall to pieces under the most ordinary of adversarial circumstances buy not a 4-Star General. OMG, it's clear to see. Kelly crumbled.

Another scenario might be that Kelly just shot from the hip.

No, he wasn't. Kelly was speaking from notes as it regards his recollections of the events surrounding Rep. Wilson imo. What has gone underreported is that Kelly got the names of the slain FBI agents for whom the building was being named for WRONG! He called them "Grogan and Duke" when the men's names were actually Benjamin Grogan and Jerry Dove, not Duke. Kelly also claimed that they were killed in a gunfight with drug dealers when the truth is their deaths were caused by bank robbers.

There is no reason for any COS to go before the world with incomplete and false recitations of events that any communications staff person could have looked up on the internet before he spouted them unless the goal being served wasn't accuracy, it was to intentionally besmirch and demean the member of Congress who answered an inquiring reporter's question upon exiting the limo after the phone call had just been completed and the wife was further grief stricken by the callousness of the President's own words and demeanor during it.

This entire administrative crew does not show any deference to their oaths to defend our Constitution when daily they show contempt for the document's intent on making sure all branches of government are held accountable for what they do and say as it regards the business of this nation. Their conduct is reprehensible and should lead to rebukes and apologies from those responsible for these transgressions in the first place, instead of wrapping themselves into an unconstitutional authoritarianism that doesn't exist within our laws and norms.

#50 One still hopes that Kelly is playing an important and stabilizing force in the adult day care where he is CoS, but for me the idea that Kelly is an upstanding officer and a gentleman has left the building. He went out of his way to make up a detailed story about Wilson that proved to be a lie, and he told that story with the skill and confidence of a proficient liar. He is a more dangerous than Trump in that regard, because most people know that Trump is "a pathological liar" (to use Bernie's assessment). I think most people, myself included, thought better of and expected better from Kelly.
