Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan said President Donald Trump is dividing the country with his comments and actions about NFL players' protests of racial inequality during the playing of the national anthem before games. ... "You have to give Trump credit, people are confused on the First Amendment versus patriotism, that if you exercise your First Amendment you're not a patriot, which is crazy," Khan said during the conference. "... People are confused on it. [Trump] knew he could hit on it and take advantage. I think what we're seeing is the great divider overcoming the great uniter."

Khan also said that what Trump has done with the national anthem protests is in keeping with his political strategy of aggressively pitting one side against the other.

"A lot of the stuff like football [that] Trump does is highly calculated," Khan said. "He looks for issues that you can touch and it will blow people up."

If you want to be upset with anyone it should be the NFL that caved for the almighty dollar and gave the middle finger to the cause & players. How come you are not targeting the NFL?

Progressives love billionaire plutocrats.

Regressives love electing billionaire plutocrats into our government.

They're also convinced billionaires are their betters and that they all deserve huge tax breaks.

Because billionaires are altruistic and will tend to the needs of the many at a loss to themselves.

He still dosen't realize why people aren't watching the NFL anymore.

The NFL said on Friday it has no plans to mandate players stand for the U.S. national anthem, but will rather present a possible solution on how to end the controversial protests when it meets with team owners next week.

Commissioner Roger Goodell, along with the head of the NFL Players Association, will meet with the owners from Oct. 17-18 in New York where the issue of player protests during the U.S. national anthem is expected to command much attention.

"(Goodell) has a plan that he is going to present to owners about how to use our platform to both raise awareness and make progress on issues of social justice and equality in this country," NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart said on a conference call.

It started with Colin for me and had nothing to do with President Trump.

It started with the unjust treatment of black Americans by police officers.

It's been escalated by Trump.

There are citizens of our nation. Born and raised here. Who's parents and grandparents and great grandparents where born here. Who do not feel like they are treated equally by law enforcement officers.

You're ignorant to all the benefits being white have provided you because you've never know anything else.

I hope the protests continue. IMO now that Trump has called the protests out as un-American it has become important for them to continue. When the 1st Amendment is under attack the proper response is not to just bend to the criticism. On the other hand, if Trump had just kept his mouth shut, I would not have minded the protests just fizzling out on their own.

Wait, you think we aren't pissed at the NFL for telling players to stand? Although, remember they aren't enforcing that request. Only Jerry Jones is and he has his reasons.

And no, that's not who we should be upset with. We SHOULD be upset with Trump for trying to divide the country and ignore the racial issues facing America. We SHOULD have kicked his ass out of office for calling Neo-Nazis and Klansmen "very fine people." THAT'S who deserves the ire of America.

saying klansmen are "very fine people

Don't know where that came from. I'm willing to bet whatever he really said was twisted out of recognition.

As for the NFL, the demonstrations gave him an opening to put in a plug for patriotism. For the sake of profits, the team owners should have quashed it before it had a chance to spread.

What are you doing on a news site if you don't keep up with the news? Just to show everyone what ignorance looks like?

"Trump Defends White-Nationalist Protesters: 'Some Very Fine People on Both Sides'"

For the sake of profits, the team owners should have never had the national anthem to begin with. There is no more connection between a football game and the military than there is between star wars and the military. Should you have to salute the flag before you watch star wars?

"What are you doing on a news site if you don't keep up with the news? Just to show everyone what ignorance looks like?

You said "klansmen" genius.

From your source, here's what Trump is quoted as saying.

"I've condemned neo-Nazis. I've condemned many different groups. But not all of those people were neo-Nazis, believe me," he said.

"You had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists," Trump said. "The press has treated them absolutely unfairly."

"You also had some very fine people on both sides," he said.

As I predicted, it was a fair statement twisted out of recognition.

For the sake of profits, the team owners should have never had the national anthem to begin with. There is no more connection between a football game and the military than there is between star wars and the military. Should you have to salute the flag before you watch star wars?

"On Monday, after two days of relentless criticism, Trump gave a stronger statement, saying "racism is evil" and specifically condemning white supremacists, the Ku Klux Klan, and neo-Nazis."

AFTER TWO DAYS OF RELENTLESS CRICITISM being the key point.

A shooting happens, and trump is blaming muslims before any facts are known. Klansmen murder someone, and he needs 2 days until he can read a statement someone else wrote saying nazis are bad. Then he goes off script and says what he really thinks - that VERY FINE PEOPLE march with nazis and klansmen.

Do YOU think VERY FINE PEOPLE march with nazis and klansmen?

What parade? It was a demonstration in defense of a Civil War icon. It had nothing to do with Nazism and racism. It's not like they were wearing uniforms.

Oh my!
Let's not have any protests that occur during the couple minutes of the national anthem (and the protest doesn't even interrupt or delay it!).

Let's be honest, OK? How many, of those complaining, in reality use that time during the singing of the national anthem for that last-minute run to get a snack, drink, and/or a restroom break (whether at the game or at home). What's REALLY annoying to those folks is that somebody else is getting a national stage to (briefly, respectfully) express their opinion and "THAT JUST AIN'T RIGHT" because it's not THEIR opinion!. You want to be a patriot? ACT like a patriot! It requires a lot more effort than waving flags and putting your beer down when Old Glory parades by.
