Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, October 11, 2017

U.S. President Donald Trump suggested challenging media licenses for NBC and other broadcast news networks on Wednesday, delivering his latest salvo against the media after recent NBC News reports about Trump's secretary of state and the country's nuclear arsenal. Trump has repeatedly used the term "fake news" to cast doubt on media reports about his administration, often without providing any evidence to support his case that the reports are not true. His suggestion that licenses might be challenged would face significant hurdles. ... Gordon Smith, the chief executive of the National Association of Broadcasters, defended the media's free speech rights. "It is contrary to this fundamental right for any government official to threaten the revocation of an FCC license simply because of a disagreement with the reporting of a journalist," he said in a statement.

"U.S. President Donald Trump suggested challenging media licenses for NBC and other broadcast news networks"

This is an example or narcissistic rage coupled with the fact that the man sure as hell is guilty of something bad.

yeah the threat to free speech comes from leftist protesters.

Just coincidental that Trump emulates Nixon on his desire to use license approval as a weapon to punish media that reports negative things about him? No, I don't think so. I think it is likely that he fears revelations just as Nixon did.

Apparently, Pres Trump wants his Twitter feed and Fox & Friends to be the only sources of information about his administration.

That seems to reflect his need for near-constant adulation from those around him.

It would be hilarious if Trump tried this.

Not only would the company continue to operate via cable but Fox Noise would freak out over the precedent set for future liberal Presidents.

In the end Donald may have to attempt a coup to protect himself from enemies, real and imagined (mostly real). The damage to the country will be incalculable, even as he fails.

Trolling is saying something outrageous purely for effect and to get others riled up. He's not smart enough or thought out enough to troll anyone.

If the serial rapist and the hildabeast are not tried for the crimes of the Clinton Foundation and their play for pay favors given to the Russians and almost anyone with millions to access the Secretary of State and always get what they wanted if the "donation" was large enough, I doubt anything will happen to Trump. The old adage of people in glass houses throwing stones comes to mind.

Why would something happen to Trump, did he do anything akin to what you accused the Clintons of?

But that is exactly what he does. whether he intends to or not. He say incredibly stupid things with the intention of trolling liberals and getting his based riled up and and all of us at each others throats.

And whether you think he is smart enough to do this intentionally or not it is exactly what is happening.

On Thursday, a panel on MSNBC's Morning Joe program mocked President Donald Trump for threatening to revoke NBC's broadcast license even though the network isn't required to have one.

"To be clear, the networks themselves do not hold federal licenses, their individual television stations do," MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski pointed out. "Right? Only a moron would think that anyhow."

Comcast would not want to loose that license. Remember when you could tune into nbc for free on public airwaves? Comcast should pay us for being allowed to profit off of owning media (nbc) and the methods to transmit the media. Are there any antitrusters in dc anymore or are they all on the take?

Also have you heard....
Las vegas shooting has been buried....here on the dr as well. Remember that one? No? Good

You don't need a license to transmit news on the Internet.

You don't need a license to transmit news on Cable TV.

You don't need a license to transmit news on Satellites.

You only need a license for over the public airwaves broadcast TV.

You have the right to protest their license application and by law they have to tell you this (Which they do at 3AM Sunday mornings).

Doing so was a very effective method of protesting during the late 60's and early 70's. Now not so much.

Thing to do now is go after the sponsors of programs and websites. This has be very effective in gathering attention and changing corporate mind think.

I don't thnk Trump has to worry much about destroying NBC, they seem to be doing it to themselves quite well. With all the Weinstein kerfuffel and General Kelly now debunking the "increasing the nukes scoop," NBC looks like a big joke. I think even HuffPo is on their asses. Go look up what's going on in the real world...no matter that it chaps your asses.

Here in Ft. Lauderdale you can still just use an antenna. And it's still free.

Anyone with an HD antenna can get a bunch of channels over the air.
You can get them for under $20 and they're good.

Way better picture than any you'll get via cable or satellite.
