For more than twenty years, Weinstein has also been trailed by rumors of sexual harassment and assault. This has been an open secret to many in Hollywood and beyond, but previous attempts by many publications, including The New Yorker, to investigate and publish the story over the years fell short of the demands of journalistic evidence.

Here's the glimmer of hope and good news in all of this:

"It's likely that women have recently felt increasingly emboldened to talk about their experiences because of the way the world has changed regarding issues of sex and power."

Let it be so.

While they usually go hand-in-hand, I've always felt that power was more important than money to certain people.

It is said that Harvey Weinstein has a net worth of around $130 million. Now, most people would find such a net worth a source of great comfort. Most average Joes and Janes who win a lottery of such money usually quit their job and spend a life of travel and luxury.

But, after hearing about Weinstein's email he sent before he was fired, it is clear that he was fearful of losing his power in Hollywood.

God, I hope she's right:

Now, with the process of tallying the size and scope of Mr. Weinstein's abuse allegations underway, Ms. Paltrow and others said they wanted to support women who had already come forward and help those in similar situations feel less alone.

"We're at a point in time when women need to send a clear message that this is over," Ms. Paltrow said. "This way of treating women ends now."

If she is right, there will be many more shoes to drop, not just with regard to Weinstein but with regard to sleazy men of all professions. If she is right, it will get uglier, and then it will get better.
