Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, October 10, 2017

The Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney -- who is working on a film about the late Fox News chief and alleged serial sexual abuser Roger Ailes -- says Hollywood stands on the cusp of a widespread sex scandal with many more movie-industry power-players being exposed for attacking women.

The director, who said there would be additional revelations about Ailes in his 2018 documentary, told The Daily Beast that he could see a lot of similarities in the cases of the Fox News boss and movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, and suggested that more entertainment execs were likely to follow.

Hollywood is full of predatory men. Politics is full of predatory men. Business is full of predatory men. Any walk of life with powerful men in it is going to have some abusers and a bunch of enablers. Sadly some men think power and money entitle them to this.

Little late to the party Bruce, but welcome nonetheless.

Rumors about new disclosures on Louis CK, Arnie, Woody and a few CAA and WME powerbrokers are circulating like mad. There are also rumors about a certain gay record mogul/philanthropist that are going around that he may be the first in the Gay Mafia to go down.

There is a breed of new Liberal that needs to make a tidy little box and put everything "conservative" into it. It is the equal and opposite reaction to Trump and I don't approve of the mindlessness of it.

Alas, it is full of predatory men. Here's the ending of the first post I made on the topic of Weinstein's sexual harassment a few days ago:

This is where I think we are:

Expect to hear more of these types of stories involving rich, powerful men in Hollywood, in politics (on all levels), in business. Expect to hear more of these types of stories on a smaller scale (the local bank teller and the bank owner, e.g.) Expect to see more women writers and directors doing films about it. And, hopefully, expect to see sexual harassment in the workplace exposed for the horrible, clichéd "old boys'club" cancer it is. Like child sexual abuse, no category or group (D/R, black/white, rich/poor, Christian/Jew and so on) is immune.

That's your bias showing. Thread about Ailes, Trump, O'Reilly, etc...theme is always that conservatives are the sexual predators.....which is mostly true, as far as I'm concerned....I'm referring to the specific generalization I cut and pasted.

Because that poster is expecting more of the same of prominent liberals so he's going with that.

Far be it from me to be the defender of conservatives, but that simply isn't true. Sexual predators, whether pedophiles, rapists, or harassers, come from all walks of life. A conservative is no more likely to be a sexual predator than a liberal. Or vice versa. Certain professions sometimes end up having a higher percentage of predators, but that is because the nature of those professions give predators a big power advantage as well as an increased access to victims (priests, coaches, Hollywood producers).

they'll back off that now considering what's happened and what they anticipate happening in the near future....but it's nothing but a partisan slant and nothing more.

and if a bunch of liberal Hollywood folks get outed for being a sexual predator it doesn't mean liberals are more prone to this.

You're missing a key ingredient, eb.

While it is true that a conservative is no more likely to be a sexual predator than a liberal, the difference lies in the many times conservatives accuse liberals of having no morals.

That's why liberals derisively use the term "family values" at the very people who claim such values (or who use their influence to promote those who do), and are then caught fragrantly violating those same "values."

That key ingredient is hypocrisy.

I don't think this needs to be conservative vs. liberal. Weinstein's fall from grace causes me zero distress, and if politicians he gave money to have to squirm for a while I have no problem with that.

#20 Ahem, far be it from me to speak for RoC, but I think the point he is making is that liberal preach "progressive values" like tolerance, equality, women's rights, etc. while hobnobbing with someone like Weinstein, who it turns out is a hardcore sexual abuser. And, therein, lies their hypocrisy.

Bruce is right in his #24: "It's not hypocrisy if they didn't know that it was going on."

My point was directed towards "people who claim such values (or who use their influence to promote those who do), and are then caught fragrantly violating those same "values" themselves.

#24 Yes, I agree and have argued with RoC and Mackris about that. They insist "everybody knew," including everyone in Hollywood and everyone in Democratic politics. I contend everyone didn't know, and that their claiming everyone did is just their way of politicizing Weinstein's harassment in an attempt to give Dems a black eye.

How disgusting is that?

Former President Barack Obama issued a statement on the series of reports of sexual harassment and sexual assault allegations against movie mogul -- and major Democratic donor -- Harvey Weinstein.

"Michelle and I have been disgusted by the recent reports about Harvey Weinstein," Mr. Obama said in the statement. "Any man who demeans and degrades women in such fashion needs to be condemned and held accountable, regardless of wealth or status. We should celebrate the courage of women who have come forward to tell these painful stories. And we all need to build a culture -- including by empowering our girls and teaching our boys decency and respect - so we can make such behavior less prevalent in the future."

Hillary Clinton condemned disgraced Hollywood executive Harvey Weinstein on Tuesday, marking her first public comments on the matter since reports of his alleged predatory behavior broke five days ago.

"I was shocked and appalled by the revelations about Harvey Weinstein," Clinton said in a statement through her spokesman Nick Merrill. "The behavior described by women coming forward cannot be tolerated. Their courage and the support of others is critical in helping to stop this kind of behavior."

Even if a whole bunch of people come forward. That doesn't mean everyone knew.

A whole bunch of people apparently knew Bill Cosby liked to slip his dates roofies. But most people didn't have a clue.

I have no idea how Harvey Weinstein sexually harassing and assaulting women suddenly became a political occurrence. Cause he donated money to the democrats? So democrats knew he harassed and assaulted women? How does that leap of logic take place?

Also, I don't know why why his mother works to support his internet habit in her basement. I guess she just loves him as a son out of natural human instinct.

Here's my take on Nulli....

I think he's had some Libertarian drift the past two or three years.

He's always been an ardent supporter of open debate and free expression. This is why he was opposed to this site's moderation policy when it was being rolled out. That he has a STRONG disdain for the tactics of SJW's and some of the intellectual deterioration at the university is very consistent with his posting history.

His posts are definitely more blunt and cynical than they used to be, but that is a stylistic change, not a change in personal politics.

The only real change I've noticed politically is much more skepticism for government-run redistribution programs. He used to be a staunch advocate for single payer but was VERY skeptical and cynical when his state of California was looking to go single-payer at the state level.

So, his economic views and the government's role in the economy have become more Libertarian, but that is it is far as him being more or less of a "liberal". The rest is just a change in temperament.

Maybe his intent was different this time, but that is speculative. Based upon my personal interactions with him I have no reason to believe that because a history exists.

On a few occasions I've pointed out to him that I think Nulli hasn't changed much, if at all, and is still a "liberal", for lack of a better label. Hans has seemed genuinely surprised by my view on this and has been trying to have me articulate what I'm seeing that is so at odds with what he's been seeing. And, yet, looking through the Recently Flagged section you will find zero comments by known DR liberals flagged by him as Newsworthy, while you'll find many known DR liberals' comments flagged Funny by him.

That's tribalism, more than anything.

I'm guessing he finds SJW idiocy more annoying than RW idiocy.

I would add that most of the personal attacks levied toward him are by left-leaning people on this site. That has got to play a role.

We have others (can't say their names as they rank up there with Voldemort with the boss) who can't. They simply can't.

There are probably even more stories out there about Hollywood.

There is rampant crime in the big money town.

How often do they go to rehab while the normal joe would go to jail?
Drugs, prostitution, rape, child pedophilia - all Hollywood.

But, the victims won't come forward, especially the famous ones, out of fear of losing their jobs? Like they don't have enough money yet?

Emma De Caunes: French actress Emma de Caunes said that she met Weinstein in 2010, soon after he told her he had a script he was producing based on a book with a strong female character. Weinstein offered to show her the script, and asked her up to his hotel room, where he began to take a shower. He then emerged naked and with an --------, asking her to lay down with him on the bed and telling her that many had done so before. 'I was very petrified,' said de Caunes. 'But I didn't want to show him that I was petrified, because I could feel that the more I was freaking out, the more he was excited.'

There's like thirty of these accounts by other actresses here. In one account, Brat Pitt confronts him for trying to molest his girlfriend.
