Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, October 11, 2017

[Fashion designer Donna] Karan was interviewed on the red carpet Sunday at the Cinemoi Fashion Film Awards in Hollywood and made comments to the Daily Mail which suggested that women may be "asking for it by presenting all the sensuality and all the sexuality." "I think we have to look at ourselves," Karan said. "Obviously, the treatment of women all over the world is something that has always had to be identified. Certainly in the country of Haiti where I work, in Africa, in the developing world, it's been a hard time for women. ... "To see it here in our own country is very difficult, but I also think how do we display ourselves? How do we present ourselves as women," Karan said to the Daily Mail. "What are we asking? Are we asking for it by presenting all the sensuality and all the sexuality?"

She was trying to get Hillary elected, ------:

From the FEC website:

KARAN, DONNA IVY NEW YORK NY 10014 DONNA KARAN INTERNATIONAL HILLARY VICTORY FUND 08/26/2016 500000.00
KARAN, DONNA IVY NEW YORK NY 10014 DONNA KARAN INTERNATIONAL HILLARY VICTORY FUND 09/18/2016 250000.00

Too bad that money to the Hillary Victory Fund went to waste.

Whether or not they were, "asking for it", it was most certainly their choice to continue in that culture.

Or maybe they thought, "I'm going to change him"?

I mean...even after all this Weinstein drama, do you really think the exploitation and overly sexual nature of that environment will actually change?

It may go more invisible for awhile but it will come right back and like most things seem to do it will be even worse.

Karan's comments are repulsive. They are exceptionally ironic coming from someone who made her fortune depicting female models -- some as young as their teens -- in provocative sexualized ways.

I don't think anyone asked for it. But the actresses who continued to be photographed with him or who thanked him in award speeches AFTER being victimized helped set up future victims. Same goes for everyone else who heard the stories and continued to portray this dirtbag positively.

Affleck is screwed. Damon is screwed.

Their best buddy Paltrow was harassed by Harvey and they pretend they were unaware?
Affleck grabbed some minor actresses ----, and his on video asking an interviewer to take her top off for the interview.
This is bigger than Harvey. I'll bet tons of hollywoods leading men have used their power to get chicks and grope.

As for Karan, it seems like bad business to do the "women were asking for it" routine considering she sells fashion to women...

I liked reading Seth McFarlands joke at the 2013 oscars when he was announcing the five nominees for best actress..."these five women will no longer need to pretend they find Harvey Weinstein attractive anymore". It got quite the laugh.
What were they laughing at if not the fact they all knew he was a creep?

#13 - I watched and posted about Jian Ghomeshi in Canada. There are so many parallels.

The behaviour of the women is not easily understood. In the Jian Ghomeshi case, it was enough to let him walk on the charges.

The behaviour of the men is more easy to understand. They were sexual predators and their power allowed them to take advantage of women.

We should figure out what keeps happening and try to prevent it from happening again.

Saying "just treat everyone with respect" isn't going to stop the Trumps or the O'Reillys or the Weinsteins. Good people are already treating others with respect.

As a culture, we have objectified women since time immemorial. It's a societal issue and it why swine like Weinstein can and do get away with it. Same with the swine in chief. Ad we all excuse it "Oh, they're from an old way of thinking! That's how things were in the old days." Who cares? This ISN'T the old days.

As a male I can literally dress in just about anything I like and not worry about anyone attacking or harassing me in any way. I can wear jeans, shorts, or even a kilt without fear of harassment (the occasional questioning if I wear the kilt in Highland fashion, aside). Women, however, don't have that luxury.

There is no simple solution to this. The wise ass in me says the only way to fix it is to objectify men just as much, but, to be honest, most men I know are too stupid to realize that would be a bad thing.

Put People in positions of power this is going to happen period. I'm not saying that is any excuse but power does weird things to most people. Is it bringing enabling their evil or changing them? Don't know but that a whole different debate. What is sure is it has happened time and again. There is a new scandal every few months and they are decades in the making usually and only see the light of day when someone is waning in power...

Examples:
Bill Cosby
Jimmy Savile
Jeffrey Epstein
Jerry Sandusky
Roger Ailes
Bill O'Reilly
The systematic issues and plethora of guilty with in the clergy of the Roman Catholic Church. (Yes and other religious organizations)
Then there are Bill Clinton and Donal Trump...

This is just a little equal opportunity list. My point being take the partisan hackery out and be real. I know how I would feel if my wife, girl friend, sister, mother, etc were preyed on by some low life and I have a pretty good idea how I would react.

"Jokes" are usually based in fact. Casting Couch anyone? There were multiple jokes about Weinstein in recent years. If Epstein was the force he was in the past - this still wouldn't be coming out. And there are many more still hiding in the shadows. Think of the people who's lives are destroyed that won't talk - Corey Haim and Corey Feldman and the "alleged" sexual abuse they endured ring any bells folks? Time to get serious about dealing with these powerful predators. No more slaps on the wrist like Epstein received or the plain and simple getting away with it of some others.

Again. Another case where bored was talking about the topic of the thread, sexual harassment and abuse, and you went straight political.

"Both sides are to blame" means the woman is to blame for seducing the male into sexually harassing and abusing her.

It doesn't have anything to do with politics.

But you only see Weinstein as a political victory. Which is sick.

This is massive ! I'll go out on a fragile limb here and say Obama is deep toasted and HRC is chargrilled by association to HW. Wasn't Obama's most celebrated performances as emotive speaker written by a Hollywood director of some repute ? HW's "behaviour" was widely known. I presume Obamas speech writer was aware (and not really his business to police tbh). The Hollywood-DNC axis is well known and oiled. HW, being the large hearted chap he is, has been raping his professional life through Hollywood. His exploits probably getting more bold with the higher the caliber the actress who came into his orbit. Nothing particularly distinguishing about that also. Apart from the blatant politicizing of his brand.
HW donated. Everyone knew. Pretty certain the politicians "heard". Yet still took the "donations".
Would it be too much to ask these pols to return the cash, or better yet, donate to a SJW project of the choice of the victims ?
The narrative that attempts to ridicule Trump and his supporters staggers from one stunning revelation of hypocrisy to another. Own goals after own goals. There is much to dislike about Trump and he does himself no favors by his narcissism. But, by Jove, the other lot are neck deep in -----, you wouldn't laugh if you were them. Strewth.

Apologies if anyone else has pointed some this (or all) out above.

Syco,
A mingled measure of obviousness in repartee for you, chum.
I feel sympathy for the women on a personal level and HW really should be in jail. There are thousands of women who have been pawed by this ogre. Guaranteed. He is that classic, beached whale-type guy with a gift for the gab at college and uni, who couldn't --------. Got a Hollywood break, became rich and connected and now he's got a continuous supply of p###y, the likes of which all those who mocked him previously, could only dream of.
And this event has something even for tin hatters who can delve into the "who/what has HW done that the deep-state doesn't like?" babble. Fascinating stuff ! And completely distractive.
To those dismissing the political angle, "I feel your pain". Besides, everything is "political" these days, darling ! It's reality TV writ large. You remember, you guys saying Trump is a reality TV president and all ?
Besides the last fortnight should have helped you understand that kneeling is disrespect, is the flag, is the troops, protecting freedoms, is entitled, is Chicago, presto it's Obama !
Celebrities being hypocrites is nothing new. From rock stars to TV evangelists. Groupies at concerts ? Those from the faierest sex that "succeed" in the business are made of sterner stuff than others. I don't condone it, but women in the entertainment industry should expect to be placed in a position, such as HW routinely did. Many walk. Others skillfully evade it. etcbr />
And just to satisfy the DR left, Trump's escapades are probably right up there with Berlusconi's. Just somewhat of the older variety and the Miss World calibre. There, I've said it !

Steve Bannon had ties to Harvey Weinstein

Steve Bannon, the former Trump White House strategist and current head of Breitbart News, is the latest politico touched by the scandal. Bannon, whose website has hammered Democrats for accepting Weinstein's political donations, himself profited off a relationship with the movie mogul, in an ill-fated joint venture more than a decade ago.

The connection between Bannon and Weinstein began more than a decade ago when Bannon, who had been a Goldman Sachs banker, was dabbling in Hollywood investments. Transcripts of investor conference calls at the time show Bannon enthusing about the business opportunities with the Weinsteins.

"We are extremely honored to be in business with the new Weinstein Company," Bannon told investors in one such call, declaring that "the Weinsteins have the most impressive track record in the film industry" and that "Bob and Harvey are two of the most prolific studio heads in the history of Hollywood."

Also of note:

Ultimately, Genius Products ended up in bankruptcy in 2011, but not before Bannon reported substantial revenues from the venture. His company Bannon Strategic Advisers had a consulting agreement worth $500,000 with Genius Products in 2006, and he was awarded bonuses of more than $200,000, according to SEC filings. Bannon also was awarded stock options in 2005 that were valued at well over $1 million at the time.

I don't recall Weinstein setting up a teen beauty pageant so he could personally inspect the girls in the girls locker room, some as young as 14.

And it's never been alleged that Weinstein raped his wife, or rather, forcibly penetrated her without her consent and against her will, which was not legally a rape in New Jersey at the time.

This is just one story in a long string of stories in which money and power gets a pass for its crimes, whether GM & EXXON poisoning everybody with tetra-ethyl lead, Monsanto selling dangerous pesticides that destroy migrant workers, police shooting black men for no reason, the USA invading other countries or assassinating their freely elected officials.

So Weinstein, Cosby and Simpson got a pass.

One of the worst cases is the cover-up of premature death due to radiation poisoning brought on by our nuclear weapons program which Trump wants to accelerate in order to one up Obama. The risks this industry has introduced into life on earth will haunt mankind for thousands of years, if we last that long.

Justice is for sale in a for profit Justice System. Most people cannot expect justice when their complaint or crime is up against deeper pockets. Trump is accelerating this problem as well.
