Congress will need to provide "substantially more" money for hurricane recovery than the initial $15.25 billion passed earlier this month, Texas Senator Ted Cruz said as members of the state congressional delegation and other leaders visited the Houston suburb of Friendswood on Thursday.

What an ass. Has a fit during Sandy but when it's his own backyard things are different.

Any Dem senator worth their money would tie the bill to cuts in F-35 spending.

@#3 ... Any Dem senator worth their money would tie the bill to cuts in F-35 spending. ...

I disagree.

While you will get no argument from me that Sen Cruz is, at best, a hypocritical anal-pore, there is no way I would want aid money tied to political retribution.

That is just not what we should be.

Did the hurricane wash all of Cruz's bootstraps out to sea?

First dollars in should be the Texas rainy day fund, which no one seems to want to spend on the effects of a rainy day...

Someone should ask Senator Cruz if he'll be using the same definition of pork on this bill, as he did for Hurricane Sandy.

The pork in this bill is a perfectly-cooked pork butt. The pork in Sandy was Christie.

HUGE difference.

Any appropriations bill to aid in national disasters should be clean, with no riders attached, thereby ensuring timely passage.

Tell it to the Republicans. A clean bill would get Democratic votes and pass easily. Guess who won't schedule a vote on a clean bill.

Are you actually so provincial you think Rahm Emanuel came up with that?

It's literally millennia old. Maybe even older than your worldview.

Has Senator Cruz demanded offsets yet, or is that only a requirement for blue-state disasters?

Cruz in typical teapublican fashion sees no problem on spending money on problems that effect him personally after crying over spending that effects someone else.

And next time something hits a Blue State, he will want it to be revenue neutral. He will do so, without any shame.

Sociopaths like Cruz have no shame. That was apparent when he shut down the government over the debt ceiling and then cried about how the government was shut down.

- Republicans love socialism when it benefits them personally. they hate it when it benefits other people

That's exactly what studies found about Trump voters; they hardily approved of societal safety nets for themselves, but were against them when they also helped other demographics than theirs.

Notice who suggested it. A liberal. It's the way they are..

#23 - Who proposed it first? Your boy Cruz. What is the new Trumpcare if not political retribution against the blue states, and red states that took the Medicaid expansion. There are FAR more examples of Rethugs staking out policies that are political retribution against Liberals and blue states than goes the other way. Obamacare? DACA? Paris climate agreement? Iran nuclear deal? All things that were done by a black president and approved by Liberals, so the GOP has to tear them all down in spite of the fact that they are working, improving the lives of people in this country and in some cases around the world.
