Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

President Trump said Sunday that the major hurricanes hitting the U.S. are improving the "brand" of the U.S. Coast Guard. Trump told a reporter that the country has "great people" responding to the massive storms and that "a group that really deserves tremendous credit is the United States Coast Guard," according to a White House pool report. "What they've done -- I mean, they've gone right into that, and you never know. When you go in there, you don't know if you're going to come out. They are really -- if you talk about branding, no brand has improved more than the United States Coast Guard," Trump said.

After watching "Deadliest Catch" this season, major kudos to the Coast Guard.

This is the same trump that says we don't need a Coast Guard, right?

Every military branch has a marketing department. They're all about branding.

Not during a crisis. Only fragile egomaniacs are thinking about branding during times like this.

People are dying and homes being destroyed and this asshat is talking about branding?

Jesus christ he is about as clueless as can be.

The only thing that would be worse is if he talked about how Mango Lameo is fine.

Military branches never waste a crisis. It always bumps up their recruiting numbers.

The reality is, the reason we have military branches is keep us safe in times of peace and to come to our aid in times of crisis. Nothing surprising or wrong about that.

The coast guard isn't a brand, its government at work for the common good, also known as socialism. They are real heros.

I'm sure our armed services love being praised by a draft dodger who acts like he's a war hero, while insulting ACTUAL war heroes.

The coast guard isn't a brand

The Coast Guard disagrees.

"The United States Coast Guard Trademark Licensing Program was established to register, regulate and protect the U.S. Coast Guard's trademarks. Our goal is to enhance the Coast Guard brand and promote service recruiting efforts by licensing high quality merchandise while guarding against unauthorized use and resolving cases involving infringements."

It's not safe to ride in with a hero mentality. That's how people get hurt. They should be competent professionals, not the stunt reel.

Natural disasters always boost the National GuardsPersons brand as well.

The Coast Guard does not need to improve their brand, they have proven their excellence a long time ago, and have kept their excellence ever since, they have no need to prove themselves.

Trumpf doesn't mention that he cut the Coast Guard budget.

You got me there Sitzs. But it's always tragic when Republicans morph a government function into a private for profit Monopoly. There war on the 99% is relentless. It's all based on greed, gaining a Monopoly position in a capitalist system, which is also at war with nature.

The real problem with the USCG is bi-partisan. We piss away $2 million, per day, per cutter, using them to chase drug smugglers. Yes, maritime law enforcement is part of their core mission, but this is just hugely wasteful activity in a "war" that can't be won.
