Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, August 23, 2017

Donald Trump just showed why even some Republicans question whether he has the temperament and the capacity to serve as president. In an incredible performance at a raucous Arizona rally Tuesday, Trump rewrote the history of his response to violence in Charlottesville and reignited the culture wars. Trump in effect identified himself as the main victim of the furor over the violence in Virginia, berating media coverage for a political crisis that refuses to abate over his rhetoric on race.

It was a remarkable real-time glimpse into the inner frustrations of a sitting president, who apparently believes he is being persecuted by accurate media coverage of his conduct and can never get a break from critics.

I correlate Donald's worst behavior with the news about Russia. This news is getting progressively worse for him. What's his motivation for leaving the perceived protections of the presidency?

#7 | Posted by Zed at 2017-08-23 08:52 AM | Reply

Perhaps he should consult with Newt Gingrich about shutting down the government. Didn't work out too well for Newt, won't for Donald either. Only an egotistical, irresponsible fool would even threaten such a thing, it will have serious ramifications to financial markets. This guy should not be President, that is simply a fact.

Riot police do not a riot make.
People running from pepper spray, etc. are not automatically "rioters."
Next time, consider looking up a term's actual definition before you use it.
That way, you might avoid sounding like you're misusing the word for your own narrow purposes.

Just listened to a caller on the radio show I listen to who was there, said she has video, said it was an entirely peaceful protest and that the police were tear gassing them, even children, when there had been no riot at all.

The worrisome dynamic was outlined months ago. If what Donald is hiding is bad enough, he'll strike back in defense using the powers of government and the more decorticate of his base to protect himself, his family, and his money.

It doesn't matter if what he does is stupid and ineffective. The very attempt will damage this country for a generation.

Donald Trump's 57 most outrageous quotes from his Arizona speech

1. "And just so you know from the Secret Service, there aren't too many people outside protesting, OK. That I can tell you."

This is, literally, the first line of his speech. Trump is obsessed with the idea that the opposition to him is overstated while the support for him is understated. (They won't turn the cameras around and show the size of my crowds!) CNN's Saba Hamedy, who was on the scene of the protests, said that thousands of people were on the streets of Phoenix.

5. "Our movement is a movement built on love."

For a second, you might have been tricked into thinking that Trump was going to return to the message of unity and justice he laid out at the start of his Afghanistan speech on Monday night.

Spoiler alert: He wasn't

Like I said, you want to ignore it.

In one wince-inducing moment screened on CBS5 and captured on Twitter, one protester - clad in a gas mask - kicked a canister of tear gas back at police.

Seconds later a cloud of dust mushroomed up from his groin and he doubled up in agony.

'A guy just got shot with a rubber bullet,' remarked one host, as the other lapsed into a pained silence. It has since emerged the man was hit with a tear gas canister.

'So... er... yeah, the officers are not, are not messing around at all,' the host stuttered as the stricken protester was dragged away by an ally.

He was just one of many caught up in the post-rally violence, as cops used nonlethal methods to disperse crowds who had thrown rocks and bottles at them.

He knows he's going down, and he wants to inspire all the nation's dumbest bigots to riot when he does.

He is literally the worst thing ever to happen to america since the civil war. Intentionally filling the heads of 30% of americans with absolute lies, in order to protect his own interests. Driving a wedge through our society, inspiring others to violence, all for his own career and ego.

If you support trump you are either stupid or gullible or both.

Nor is there any.

You see, when normal humans use the word "hypocrisy," they mean doing or supporting a behavior that they condemn or oppose. The First Lady doesn't herself cyber bully (as you conceded) and, as we established on that thread, doesn't support cyber bullying (you made some moronic argument asserting that her bit condemning her husband was somehow support until I pointed out one could condemn a thing without condemning every instance of the thing, at which point you cried and ran away). Hence, she is not a hypocrite by the normative definition of the term.

Boston was interesting.....i listened/watched most of the day but it looked pretty benign. Almost seemed like a troll of the alt left folks. I listened to Shiva's speech and was mildly impressed but sheesh, Monsanto seeds both sides with plenty of influence so that seemed to be a non starter. It also looked like the cops were taking the brunt of most of the angst that day. Too much buffer space between sides for any scuffles/violence.

There is a funny video of a maga non neo nazi guy trying to make fun of the mostly masked antifas on the hill. Red meat for the red communists. Pretty bizzare days for the elitists I'll say....

Guess I'll need to mutate to one of the two poles eventually, probably soon if this rabid course of action continues.
