Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, August 10, 2017

Donald Trump's company turned a $1.97 million profit at its opulent Trump International Hotel so far in 2017, dramatically beating its expectations and giving the first hard numbers to critics who charge that Trump is profiting from his presidency. The Trump Organization had projected that it would lose $2.1 million during the first four months of 2017 as it established a new hotel and convention business in the nation's capital, according to newly released federal documents. Instead the hotel, with its namesake in the White House down the street, is already turning a hefty profit and charging more for its rooms than most or all of the city's other hotels.

Government watchdog groups, competing businesses and state attorneys general have sued over what they call unfair business practices that allow Trump to use the presidency to enrich himself -- a tension likely to be heightened by the hotel's almost immediate profitability.

Of his 202 days in office, Trump has spent 65 days at his properties, most of them at his golf properties. He has twice been to the Pennsylvania Avenue hotel to have dinner, appearances that critics say amount to promotional displays.

Just think how many more millions he could make on his dream of Trump Hotels all across the old Soviet Union, if only Putin will give him building permits.... which is how this whole Pres/collusion thingy all started.

Trump can't win. If he picked a different hotel to eat dinner, critics would say that it's because the food must be better than at Trump Plaza. Or they would surmise that the Secret Service detail is bad for business, which is why he's avoiding going to his own place.

Since January is over 200 days. He's been twice to his hotel down the street to have dinner. And that's supposed to be a scandal?

And I thought his properties were going to belly-up because of all the liberals boycotting them?

It's all so confusing, keeping up with the talking points these days. Is Wall Street still crashing, like it did in the futures market on election night? Or did it, too, go the opposite way everyone thought?

Pretty sure the article was about 2m profit instead of the expected 2m loss, not two dinners.

Emoluments clause and all that. Sorry to be a downer but Trump is violating the Constitution. And we seem to be looking the other way. If you are a foreign dignitary wanting a favor from the United States where would you stay? Trump violates the Constitution in many ways but this is the most obvious one.

Our constitution is violated every day. Why is it that it only matters when the bafoon-in-chief does it? The government illegally spies on us, warrantless searches, illegal detainment by the police....

whitedevil,

For most astute observers, it doesn't much matter who gets elected, 99% of our politicians are beholding to the 1% that finance their campaigns. Clinton undoes the new deal, Bush starts two unnecessary wars and then Obama starts two more. Trump has reneged on all the populist promises that contributed to his alleged electoral victory.

A study at Princeton confirms this:

Staying at a Trump hotel is violating the constitution but donating millions to the Clinton foundation while she was Sec of State was not. Got it.

Or he could have just divested himself from his investments like he told you he would during the campaign. One of his many many lies that you clearly have no problem with.

Sucker.

I'll spell it out for you.
Trump gets the profits from the hotel.
The Clintons did not get and do not get profits from the Clinton Foundation.
Got it?

Sorry E1G1 but they don't get it, won't ever get it. They are beyond stupid, it's actually impossible to communicate with them at all. I actually have family members who I simply can't talk to because of that.

What Trump does not destroy and survives his calamitous Presidency will be just profit as a plan, monetizing everything from roads, schools, ties and steaks to the presidency.
