Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, August 09, 2017

FBI agents raided the Alexandria home of President Trump's former campaign chairman late last month, using a search warrant to seize documents and other materials, according to people familiar with the special counsel investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Federal agents appeared at Paul Manafort's home without advance warning in the predawn hours of July 26, the day after he met voluntarily with the staff for the Senate Intelligence Committee. The search warrant was wide-ranging and FBI agents working with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III departed the home with various records. Jason Maloni, a spokesman for Manafort, confirmed that agents executed a warrant at one of the political consultant's homes and that Manafort cooperated with the search.

Pre-dawn raids are overrated. How about post-dawn or even pre-dusk?

‘Predawn raid': 2 words that just added huge intrigue to the Russia investigation
www.washingtonpost.com

...Also, in a little-noticed report last week, CNN linked Manafort to possible collusion. Here's the paragraph at issue:

CNN has learned that investigators became more suspicious when they turned up intercepted communications that U.S. intelligence agencies collected among suspected Russian operatives discussing their efforts to work with Manafort, who served as campaign chairman for three months, to coordinate information that could damage Hillary Clinton's election prospects, the U.S. officials say. The suspected operatives relayed what they claimed were conversations with Manafort, encouraging help from the Russians.

It's not clear that this report, which was anonymously sourced and which The Post hasn't confirmed, has anything to do with the search warrant. But it only adds to the mystery surrounding Manafort....

No kidding. Pre-dawn is not only predictable, but it also seems to confuse the people performing the raid and they get the wrong address all too often.

I'm glad no one was shot or otherwise roughed up due to the low-vis conditions of predawn activities.

I'm sure Mr. Manafort has much experience dealing with shady situations.

Mueller is playing 4D chess.
He requests docs from Manafort and gets nothing of interest.
Has raid ready to go after Manafort's testimony.
The raid doesn't leak. Manafort doesn't talk about the raid until it is leaked.
Powerful people are now going to wonder if the FBI found incriminating evidence.
They are going to wonder how much more cooperative Manafort is after the raid.
Manafort may need protective custody and will have to give something to get it.

Maybe this WaPo article was onto something.

"With a tap of the thumb, President Trump on Friday invited speculation that he or a family member could be indicted by a federal grand jury"
www.washingtonpost.com

It wouldn't be the first time Trump and Fox were on the same page together getting out in front of a big news story. They were both tweeting/reporting stories/ideas to soften the blow of the Trump Jr story and the report of a grand jury being impaneled before those stories broke. Conman Donnie and Fox have both now attempted to provide cover for his base to run for if news breaks of an indictment or few being issued.

Fusion GPS to turn over 1,000s of pages of documents:

A research firm tied to a dossier of salacious allegations involving President Donald Trump is turning over thousands of pages of documents to a congressional committee.
That's according to a person familiar with the situation, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the arrangement had not yet been publicly announced.

The firm, Fusion GPS, was turning over records Wednesday in response to a request from the Senate Judiciary Committee. The panel is one of several investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

The firm hired a British intelligence officer who compiled a dossier of allegations involving Trump and his ties to Russia.

The committee also plans to hear privately from Glenn Simpson, a co-founder of the firm.

I've said it before, Manafort and Flynn are going to be the fall guys, and unless something earth shattering is found, anything found against Trump and his family will be "inconclusive."

The Beltway has operated this way, "whitewashing" scandal, for hundreds of years, this will be more of the same.

And no, I am not okay with it, have never supported Trump nor did I vote for him.

Manafort and Flynn will be the guys that turn State's evidence...well, the first of many.

Trump has no really loyal friends other than his family... OK, some of his family.

Trump is definitely throwing those two under the bus. He threw Flynn under already when the National Enquirer came out saying he was a spy in the WH. NE today:

I wonder if Flynn or Manafort were to flip on Trump if that would be enough to get folks past the inconclusive threshold?

Personally, I'd like to see Mueller show up at the 9th hole of Trumps NJ golf course home with a bag full of subpoenas.

Fore!

That would be a good way for Mueller to get fired and end the whole damn thing.

Showing up at the 9th hole or having sufficient evidence to proceed with the case?

That is probably talked about daily by Mueller and his team, but the likelihood of that happening is probably very small without some serious smoking gun evidence.

In July, but its big news today. I doubt they'll ever get Trump. But Manafort and Flynn were unregistered foreign agents and if there's a penalty for that they will pay.

I wonder if they got to use any of their new toys. I mean how often do you get the chance to throw a flash bang in a baby's crib or shoot a family dog?

Inconclusive, conclusive, doesn't matter. Impeachment is a political process, not criminal. If Trump's approval rating continues to fall to the point where him staying in office puts GOP control of both houses of Congress at serious risk then he is done for.
