Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Fearful of alienating voters who appear more concerned about the economy and health care, Democrats campaigning in districts across the country are de-emphasizing Russia in their rhetoric -- and some are warning that a persistent focus on the Russia investigation could backfire.
"In the races where I'm working, I think voters think that Russia is important and that the questions need to get answered," Bill Burton, a veteran Democratic consultant, said at a political convention this past weekend. "But they're mostly sick of hearing about it, and they want to hear politicians talk about things that are more directly important in their lives."
In a state that is critical to the party's efforts to retake the House, Darry Sragow, a Democratic strategist whose California Target Book handicaps races in California, called Russia a "distraction" and said Democrats "are going to be in deep, deep trouble if they don't start talking about what voters care about."

California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, who's running for governor, was even more direct in a recent appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." The Russia investigation, he said, "doesn't do anything for Democrats at all. ... It's a loser."

It's imperative to find the truth about Donald and Russia. It's what's best for the nation, if not for someone's specific political agenda.

If we can't bring an obvious freak like Trump to bay for crimes there is probably cause to think he has committed, then we're a pretty worthless crew, Right and Left.

How is it possible to get sick? The subject is fascinating and vital.

You have a peculiar political orientation. I don't know what your standards are, I fear because you have none.

If Donald is a traitor the world needs to know that. If he is a money-launderer and a tax fraud, we need to know that.

I don't need my Democratic candidates elected so badly as to let such things simply pass.

In short, choose patriotism over transient political advantage. You don't want to lie to your grandkids as to the kind of man you are.

I was leaning more toward Villaraigoza but it looks like Newsom doesn't have his head in his .... like the rest of the Dems do.

"Do any of you believe that if there was any truth to the Russia thing we would have already seen at least some evidence? "

For God's sake, man, somebody claiming they were representing Russia told DJT Jr. they wanted to help the campaign defeat Hillary Clinton. Junior responded he loved it, and set up a meeting with a bunch of Russians, and two other central figures in Trump's campaign. What exactly are you waiting for?

In his finances, to include tax returns.

"ok where is the crime?"

Well, for Flynn and Kushner, repeatedly lying on a security clearance. For Manafort, tax evasion. For Trump, eventually, it'll be discoveries of money laundering.

Meanwhile, why are you okay with seemingly everyone around Trump lying to you about multiple meetings with Russians?

I mean, are you okay with Putin knowing about Junior lying about the meeting before you did, while Junior and his dad are busy playing you for a chump?

I'd add Trump's abuse of power. Obstruction of justice is difficult to prove; abuse of power, however, has a far lower threshold.

Yep, and if Mueller wants to take down Trump then that is how he is going to do it.

If Trump is guilty of any crime I will be the first to get the rope and hang him

I'll hold you to that.

Don't hold your breath. He'll punish him is he's guilty but doesn't want to waste the time to find out if he is or not.

Democrats?

Anyone who claims there is no evidence is lying. Plenty of evidence has come to light about Trump campaign officials committing actions that are rise to the level of criminality.

There's even more evidence of Trump officials lying about activities involving Russians.

Any Democrat who cares more about winning future elections than holding government officials accountable for committing obstruction of justice and other serious crimes has misplaced priorities.

We all lose if serious crimes are not fully investigated and those who are guilty brought to justice.

If there was nothing to these allegations Mueller would have closed up shop. He's a former FBI director widely respected by both parties with a long, distinguished record in public life. He wouldn't torpedo his own reputation by making something out of nothing.

Really? Including all those committed by Democrats? Awww, ----, what's the use. Of course not. I know that, all of you were more than happy to have the Hilabeast be president. Please pardon the question.
