Peter Karmanos Jr., majority owner of the Carolina Hurricanes, could be close completing a sale of the NHL team for about $500 million, according to a Bloomberg News report. Hurricanes president Don Waddell said Thursday the offer, if accepted, would result in the team staying in Raleigh. "The team is not moving," he said. The new owners would include Chuck Greenberg, who previously owned part of the Texas Rangers.

The first professional game I ever attended was a Hartford Whalers-Rangers NHL game back in March, 1997. My little nephew still wears the blue and green "whale" jersey my uncle bought me. The following year they moved to Carolina and I might have cried because I loved that jersey so much-- I was only 6 years old for crying out loud. It would be nice if they moved back to Hartford, but I wouldn't bet on it. Who cares about the NHL anyway?
