Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, July 17, 2017

The Democrats' "Great Freshman Hope," Sen. Kamala Harris, is heading to the Hamptons to meet with Hillary Clinton's biggest backers. The California senator is being fêted in Bridgehampton on Saturday at the home of MWWPR guru Michael Kempner, a staunch Clinton supporter who was one of her national-finance co-chairs and a led fund-raiser for her 2008 bid for the presidency. He was also listed as one of the top "bundlers" for Barack Obama's 2012 re-election campaign, having raised $3 million. Guests there to greet Harris are expected to include Margo Alexander, a member of Clinton's inner circle; Dennis Mehiel, a Democratic donor who is the chairman of the Battery Park City Authority, even though he lives between a sprawling Westchester estate and an Upper East Side pad; designer Steven Gambrel and Democratic National Committee member Robert Zimmerman. Washington lobbyist Liz Robbins is also hosting a separate Hamptons lunch for Harris.

Despite being less than seven months into her new job as senator, Harris is already said to be the Democrats' top fund-raiser and is being talked about as a 2020 presidential hopeful.

Harris has denied having "national aspirations," but this Hamptons trip proves it isn't far from her mind.

A Democratic insider said, "Kamala is the big Democratic star right now, at a time when they badly need a star. She's coming to the Hamptons to meet key people as she takes a national stage, and expands her influence and ambitions."

I went to Hastings with "Kammie", she was the least ghetto person in the BLSA. I sat next to her in my Torts class, she is very smart, funny and clever.

I would vote for her even though I don't necessarily agree with her politics because she is smarter than most politicians.

#2

My guess is she cringed when she saw the replays of her "woke" speech the other day.

Really unfortunate she is talking to the ClintonsCamp.

I figured Obama would take over the Dems after the disaster of a presidential campaign.

Intelligence is a disadvantage as a leader. One becomes overly confident thinking that the know more than everyone else, having to micro manage everything, they are the worst sorts of leaders.

You want someone that can deal ambiguity and with not having to control everything.

I can't vouch for the veracity, but this is leadership, pushing decisions down the chain, if true, its appears its not what Obama was doing ...

Gavin is a CisWhiteMan of privilege. No WAY Gavin gets the minority vote, he would be called a racist if he went up against Kamala. Hell I will call you a "racist" now, just for suggesting it =)

Yup, and he's the only one that will give the Dems a shot, IMO. Running Bernie, Hillary, Joe, or Al again will be worse than the last Republican primary.

The "next in line" candidate does not win. Obama, Trump, GW Bush, Billy Boy, and even Reagan all proved this to be true as "out of left field" candidates.

Newsom fits that mold. Not many other Dems legitimately will be able to say that come 2020. Granted, he's got to win California's governorship first. And that might be a tough one for him.

On the CA Governor race, I think Newsom can pull it off, Villaraigosa has a bad habit of self-immolating (and the people North of Fresno absolutely hate LA) and Chaing is a lightweight.

Under Jerry Brown California injoys the strongest economy in America. What we need to fear isn't Jerry Brow it's the Sam Brownbacks of this nation.

Moonbeam has been fascinating to watch Nulli, since his social agenda is very Chavezista but his fiscal policies have been right of Reagan, at least as far as fiscal conservatism on the budget.

Newsom would be a fiscal train wreck (look at what he did to SF) but still a better choice than Chaing or Villaraigosa.

Under __________ California enjoys the strongest economy in America. All the Governor has to do is make sure that the Legislature doesn't spend itself to oblivion and CA will do just fine. Brown has done the best job at that since Duke.

Not sure if it matters in this day and age (21st century voter values and all that), but Kamala Harris has no children of her own. At 52, it's a little late; sort of makes me sad that human biology is as it is.

Moonbeam terms out in 18 months, it's Villaraigosa that I worry about from a spending and benefits standpoint. He totally f'd us here in LA with the Union Pension agreements from 6 years ago, God knows what he will do in Sacramento.

LA with the Union Pension agreements - roc

We went through that pain on sjc, but it's a problem everywhere.

I would say it's mostly a city; county problem.

Local tax dollars going to people already retired is a bad thing.

California crazies...

California Requires Solar Panels on All Homes and Windmills on All Farms

A Democratic member of the Senate told us "We cannot wait any longer to save the planet. The time is now." We asked him about the economic effect of the bill. He stated, "This will be a huge economic stimulus for California. Now all my family members who are here as undocumented workers can get a job. It will take the burden off me of supporting them. Who do you think is going to climb on all those roofs and install those solar panels?"

#21 | Posted by nullifidian at 2017-07-16 09:53 AM | Reply

Well having seen a few solar jobs they were technically trained.

It's not an easy job like roofing.

It used to be "-------", then last year it became "buttercup" and "snowflake"
