Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, July 14, 2017

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump told Reuters that, until the New York Times broke news of it on Saturday, he had not known about his eldest son's June 2016 meeting with with a Kremlin-connected lawyer who had promised to provide the Trump campaign with incriminating information about Hillary Clinton. "No, that I didn't know until a couple of days ago when I heard about this," Trump said, asked if he knew about the meeting between the attorney and Donald Trump, Jr. Shortly after that interview, Trump boarded Air Force One and took off for Paris. On the flight there, he offered pool reporters remarks contradicting what he told Reuters. He went on to indicate that he may have known about the meeting before last weekend after all: "In fact maybe it was mentioned at some point," he added.

According to the White House pool report, Trump was quick to point out that while he may have been told about the meeting, he didn't know that it was supposed to be about dirt on Hillary Clinton. Also comes news that Jared Kushner met with Trump to discuss the issue, according to advisers to the White House, around the time he updated his federal disclosure form to include [Natalia] Veselnitskaya's name on a list of foreign contacts that [Jared] Kushner was required to submit to the F.B.I. to obtain a security clearance. No specific timeframe is given for when he told him, but it would have been sometime around the end of May or the start of June. And so Jared Kushner seemingly confirmed that Donald Trump was lying when he's claimed he didn't learn about the meeting until a few days ago.

The Trump team is doing their damnedest to make the investigators job easier for them. So many lies and contradictory statements, sooner or later their most fervent supporters are going to recognize that nothing they say can be taken for the truth without independent confirmation by unbiased witnesses.

And they are doing this in front of cameras, the globe and the universe without a whit of self awareness. The term chinese water torture may be replaced with a new moniker: Trump self-flagellation.

Just when you think this POTUS couldn't possibly any more of a blatant liar, he proves you wrong.

Of course he knew about the meeting; it was arraigned for Trump and Putin' mutual Pal to discuss the quid pro quo for Putin's help in the election. The IC knows Trump knew, which is why Trump is admitting it now.

He's always turned and bitten. He continues to insist that any investigation into this subject is wholly political and a Democratic butt-hurt plot over the election loss, ignoring that the investigation began before the election - due to the importance in recognizing an attack against this nation's institutions and security - even when many DID believe Hillary was a shoe-in to win in November.

And at this same point in time Donald Trump himself asked Russia to commit a crime by obtaining private emails and releasing them publicly in order to help him defeat his opponent.

He's been biting all along but it's his constitutional duty to protect this nation from foreign adversaries that's he's shredding, not the Democrats.

And Rinat Akhmetshin was also part of this now infamous meeting (the meeting that never happened a couple weeks ago - correct righties?)... He was behind another hacking conspiracy, former Russian inteligence and is a "gun for hire".

Don Jr. is right--they are new at this. It shows. Not only did three of the most senior members of the Trump campaign take a meeting NO ONE ELSE would have taken, but they also cannot control the leaks, cannot control the message, cannot get ahead of the matter by putting EVERYTHING out there, and cannot get rid of the team members at risk (other than Paul "Shifty" Manafort).

Watching a perp walk is one thing. Watching as the perps walk out of The White House is another. Stay tuned--we will see it...

Matt Tait, the hacker Smith contacted about verifying Clinton's emails, thinks WH knew about the meeting at in April when the Senate IC found out about it:

Pwn All The Things‏ @pwnallthethings

Pwn All The Things Retweeted Yashar Ali
If SSCI knew of the meeting back in April, POTUS & key WH staff must have known of it & its significance then too.
Pwn All The Things added,

Yashar Ali @yashar
On CNN, @SenatorLankford says the Senate Intelligence Committee found out about the Don Jr/Russian lawyer meeting in April.

And this:

Pwn All The Things‏ @pwnallthethings

The SSCI had to get the email from somewhere. And the choices are:
1) The executive branch, so seems unreasonable to assume WH wouldn't know

2) One of the email chain participants. Which, again, is the Trump inner circle.

Yeah, the fact that he is hacker is like totally coincidental. So is the fact that 10 minutes after the meeting, Trump tweet about Clinton's 33,00 missing emails.

THE TRUMP FAMILY ARE RUSSIAN OPERATIVES IT APPEARS...THE REPUBLICAN PARTY WILL CONTINUE TO USE THESE TRAITOROUS DUPES AS LONG AS THEY CAN SO AS TO FURTHER THEIR NAZI-LIKE AGENDA AGAINST THE MAJORITY OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. REPUBLICAN LEADERSHIP ARE THE TRULY EVIL INGREDIENT IN THIS ATTEMPT TO SUBORDINATE THE AMERICAN CONSTITUTION TO THE WILL OF INTERNATIONAL OLIGARCHS. MITCH McCONNEL AND PAUL RYAN ARE MUCH MORE DANGEROUS THAN THE TRUMPS...THEY ARE IN THE POSITION TO INTERPRET THE RULES THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT THE PUBLIC FROM CHICANERY OF ALL SORTS, INSTEAD THEY HAVE PERVERTED THE SYSTEM TO THE POINT THAT WE HAVE RUSSIAN AGENTS PROVABLY INTERACTING WITH THE TRUMP WHITEHOUSE. AND THEIR SILENCE IS TELLING.GODDAMN IT, PAY ATTENTION FOLKS, THIS IS OUR COUNTRY...THESE ARE OUR FELLOW CITIZENS AND WE ARE ALL IN GRAVE DANGER IF WE SIT BACK AND WAIT FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

Pwn All The Things‏ @pwnallthethings

However you slice it, the idea SSCI had this info in April means the WH knew (or should have known) back as far back as April too.

I guess maybe there's an arg that they gave a vast pile of emails to SSCI, and SSCI searched through them and WH didn't. But that's on WH.

No need to yell. We already know we are screwed.

Our country is being attacked by the Russians and our President has yet to admit even it is happening much less respond.

And now it appears that he is actually colluding with them.

So yeah.

We know we are screwed.

You want to yell at someone yell at the party who controls Congress.

yeah, it's hard to yell and at the same time accurately aim...so tone it down and try not to miss is probably good advice

While those in the Trump administration were filling out the security forms, they apparently left out meetings with Russians. At the time, the reason for the oversight was usually something along the lines of ~I met with a lot of people, I don't remember all the meetings.~

Now that this Russian thing is starting to take a serious turn, those Trump admin people are resubmitting the security forms, this time with [sometimes] many meetings with Russians. Meetings that may have been ~forgotten~ on prior versions of the forms.

While I think it is good that the various forms are being brought up to date, I have some questions bouncing around in my head...

1) what will happen with security clearances that were based upon the prior seemingly less-than-complete forms, and that now may not be appropriate given all the foreign personnel contacts?

2) if the people are now able to remember the meetings, why couldn't they remember them before? Did they not take the process seriously enough to do the level of research of their meetings they seem to be doing now? Or did they intentionally leave some meetings out of the process?

3) what the frack is going on?????

You know why. They were lying before. They lie until they get caught in the lie. Then they lie again. Every single one of them. That's what criminals do. They lie about what they do. But that don't matter to the GOP. Honesty is just a talking point to bash the opponent with not having.

Opposition research is part of electoral politics; everyone does it. That people close to Trump met with a Russian government lawyer is not illegal. The emails constitute more evidence of the stupidity of the Trump family and associates, as if we need another story to reach that conclusion.

But there are real dangers in the connections between Trump, the Trump family, and the Trump campaign and Russian oligarchs, mobsters, spies, and assorted sleaze balls. With all the Russophobic propaganda in our country, these issues are being confounded.

The real danger to US democracy lies in voter suppression efforts by Republicans and now the Trump White House. This problem has been brazenly conducted for decades without any serious legal blowback. Russian behavior has little if any effect on the integrity of American democracy.

Feckless Democrats hope to ride anti-Trump loathing built on Russiaphobia back to power in 2018. What they should do instead is offer a path to better economic outcomes for most Americans, the 99%. The DNC leadership has not shown the slightest intention of doing that. Instead they are part of a widespread campaign to undermine Bernie. This is a grave error. Its very important not to put the country through eight years of Trump.

Jr reminds me of the William H Macey character in Fargo defending his deal. DTj was pumped to show a good deal to his dad and get the credit. Instead he walked into a setup where nothing substantive was revealed. Maybe he bit on the hype from a promoter and really was disappointed enough to forget the whole incident. The fact that none of the participants were Russian agents (except an American / Russian citizen brought in at the last minute as part of the setup who is now a lobbyist) and no actual Moscow dirt was produced is this attempted collusion? The solicitation part was actually the promoter offering information. Is receipt of crap a crime? I reckon if they did follow the leads as invited there was more trouble waiting.

I hope POTUS has more to do with his time than drill down alibis with knuckleheads about things in which he did not participate. There really was no duty for him to be the leaker of the story. Tweet: "just got off the phone with Don jr. Looks like the updated Kushner disclosure is going to make him look like an idiot. Stay tuned."
