Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, July 13, 2017

Senate Republicans included a provision that exempts members of Congress and their staff from part of their latest health care plan. This exemption could have the effect of ensuring that members of Congress have coverage for a wider array of benefits than other Americans who purchase their own coverage. ... Insurers can offer plans without these benefits -- unless they're selling coverage to members of Congress and their staff, who are required to buy coverage on the health law marketplaces. The exemption says this part of the law still applies to any plans sold to Congress.

Finally, after eight years of trying, the Republicans have been able to make health care their own Waterloo.

Better late than never, I suppose!

Q: Is it true that there are bills in Congress that would exempt members and their staffs and families from buying into "Obamacare"?

A: No. Congress members and staffers will be required to buy insurance through the exchanges on Jan. 1.

GOP Congress people would never be dumb enough to buy the catastrophic plans they want to allowed to be sold to other people.... mainly because other people don't really exist for them.

They get more like Trump all the time... he just wants something, anything, passed, no matter how destructive it is and no matter what he said about health care previously.

Unlike the republicans, the dems try to improve healthcare for all. Republicans are worsening ours and padding their own. The fact that you fail to see the difference is why we call people like you deplorable.

BL2 never broke 70 in his life, even with his handicap.

Almost as bad as the guy here who recently told me people he works for pay him millions of dollars every year. Have no idea who it was, that's how much of an impression the statement made.

BL, buddy, 80 I'll buy. But not 70.

No they didn't. In fact while the American public can buy their insurance directly under the ACA, Congress and their staff MUST use the exchanges

To Quote the actual law PPACA Sec. 1312(d)(3)(D):

(D) MEMBERS OF CONGRESS IN THE EXCHANGE. --
(i) REQUIREMENT. -- Notwithstanding any other provision of law, after the effective date of this subtitle, the only health plans that the Federal Government may make available to Members of Congress and congressional staff with respect to their service as a
Member of Congress or congressional staff shall be health plans that are --
(I) created under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act); or
(II) offered through an Exchange established under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act).
(ii) DEFINITIONS. -- In this section:
(I) MEMBER OF CONGRESS. -- The term ‘‘Member of Congress'' means any member of the House of Representatives or the Senate.
(II) CONGRESSIONAL STAFF. -- The term ‘‘congressional staff'' means all full-time and parttime employees employed by the official office of a Member of Congress, whether in Washington, DC or outside of Washington, DC.

What a dumb thing to say.

Everyone is on "Obamacare". It is the Law of the Land. No one can sell health insurance in America and call it health insurance unless it meets the minimum requirements of the ACA.

#26 | Posted by donnerboy at 2017-07-15 02:50 PM | Reply

Obamacare is a law not a product. There is no such thing as non-obamacare insurance. There is insurance that is not sold on the exchanges but it still must comply with the law.

I disagree, I believe Babbles has broken 70 twice, once when he turned 71 and again when he turned 72. As far as the aces? He makes an ace out of himself every time he posts.

Morons like post and run Donny snowflake don't understand that what they see on Faux Nuze is really the "Fake News." So, let me educate him. Prior to the ACA, members of Congress and their staff used to get their health insurance through the US government, just like other government employees. When Dems were crafting the ACA, Chuck Grassley thought he would be smart with a poison pill amendment that would force members of Congress and their staff who did not get health insurance through their spouse's work (as Cruz did from his wife's job with Goldman Sachs) to purchase their plans through the DC exchange. He thought for sure Dems would vote his amendment down, and the GOP would be able to call the Dems hypocrites for not wanting to purchase plans on the exchange. But Dems fooled old Chuck, much to his chagrin, and instead adopted the amendment. Of course, they added some financial assistance because members and staff were losing employment based coverage, and Congressional staffers don't make that much money, but they still have to buy their insurance on the exchange.

So to answer the Federalist's stupid post, ALL MEMBERS OF CONGRESS AND THEIR STAFF MEMBERS WHO PURCHASE INSURANCE DO SO THROUGH THE DC EXCHANGE, IT'S THE LAW!

I'll need to see contemporaneous, witnessed, signed scorecards. Aces I'll let him have because all he has to do is set up in the right general direction and let gravity and luck do 99% of the work.
