Warren Buffett on Monday donated roughly $3.17 billion of Berkshire Hathaway stock to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and four family charities, his largest contribution in a more than decade-long plan to give away his fortune. ... Buffett also donated to the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, named for his late first wife, and the Howard G. Buffett, Sherwood and NoVo Foundations, respectively overseen by his children, Howard, Susan and Peter. Following Monday's donation, Buffet remained the world's fourth-richest person, according to Forbes magazine.

Donating to his children's charity accounts seem like some sort of shell game.

Trump doesnt have that kind of money because he is terrible at creating value. His only skills are picking rich parents, money laundering and conning the gullible.

Buffett is a liberal. Once he donates money to a foundation, it will eventually go to charity. It makes his taxes less complicated to give it to a foundation, and also allows it to be doled out intelligently in smaller chunks without having to consider the tax implications, but when he says he is giving money to charity you should believe it.

It is Republicans (like Trump) who launder money back into their businesses through foundations. I know you probably want to claim the Clintons do it, but that is just right-wing lies. There is no evidence that they did anything inappropriate with their foundation. Just because you (Republicans) have no morality and will do all sorts of sleazy things for personal gain (like laundering money through charities) does not mean that other people (Democrats) have the same lack of morality and would do the same sleazy thing if given the chance. It is a fallacy to believe that your own lack of ethics and morality is common in other groups of people as well.

How well does everyone here know the Buffett childrens' foundations, as well as the first wife's foundation? For the time being, the money is still in the family, just under different ownership.

The Gates foundation is very legit, but it's like, c'mon Buffett, there are more established foundations than the ones set up by your children and first wife.

"For the time being, the money is still in the family"

Please read up on how Foundations work before embarrassing yourself further. It's no more "family" money than are donations to the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation.

Of course the left praises BH for what he does avoiding estate taxes. You all even give him a pass for all his Wall Street Big Bankster vested interests! I personally find it outrageous that he can avoid the 55% estate tax by 'donating' it charities were he retains investment directives over large chunks of monies. It's a classic case of do what we say not what we do. He's thumbing his nose as a 1% of the 1%'ers, showing us that he can do better retaining control instead of giving it to Uncle Sam.

If you don't think he controls what happens to those blocks of stock YOU'D BE WRONG!!!

Pro abortion?

"'donating' it charities were he retains investment directives over large chunks of monies."

Another ignoramus of how Foundations operate, weighs in. First, no quotes should be around donating; second, unless funds are restricted, the donor has no control whatsoever.

"he can do better retaining control instead of giving it to Uncle Sam."

Again, not control. He can certainly know, for example, the charity works to ameliorate hunger, but after the donation, he has NO CONTROL AT ALL.

"If you don't think he controls what happens to those blocks of stock YOU'D BE WRONG!!!"

Stupid is as stupid does.

This is STILL Obama's economy until October 01 2017 at 12:01 AM. THEN it will be Trump's.

You are incrediblely naive if you believe buffet doesn't control what his friend Bill gates's foundation does with BRKH stock. Then you have the nerve to call me stupid.

And of course you ignore he owns Wells Fargo and Bank America. Or there his company controlsore derivatives then any other company. Do you still try to pretend your not a life long Democrat Dan?

16 lol like GW didn't own all bad news Obama had, and bho took credit for all the good news. How quickly the left forgets. Oh that's right, it's a 24 hour time loop for the left, whatever said yesterday, by you, quickly forgotten!!

"you have the nerve to call me stupid. "

If you don't understand how foundations work, you don't understand how foundations work. Simple, really.

"Do you still try to pretend your not a life long Democrat Dan?"

I came of age between the Vietnam War, which taught me to never trust Democrats, and Watergate, which taught me to never trust Republicans. I registered as an Independent, and have been ever since. Up until 2006, I voted for as many Rs as Ds, including my namesake, who is my personal political hero. In 2006, the vast majority of Rs voted to codify a lot of my co-workers as second class citizens via a constitutional amendment. Since then, I've pulled the straight-line lever exactly twice.

not really. every charity has to have administrators. may as well be his own children as someone he doesn't know or trust.

Your argument is like a man, dying of thirst, who refuses a drink of water because it's the wrong temperature.
