Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, July 11, 2017

Before arranging a meeting with a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer he believed would offer him compromising information about Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump Jr. was informed in an email that the material was part of a Russian government effort to aid his father's candidacy, according to three people with knowledge of the email. The email to the younger Trump was sent by Rob Goldstone, a publicist and former British tabloid reporter who helped broker the June 2016 meeting. In a statement on Sunday, Trump acknowledged that he was interested in receiving damaging information about Clinton, but gave no indication that he thought the lawyer might have been a Kremlin proxy.

Goldstone's message, as described to the New York Times by the three people, indicates that the Russian government was the source of the potentially damaging information. It does not elaborate on the wider effort by Moscow to help the Trump campaign. There is no evidence to suggest that the promised damaging information was related to Russian government computer hacking that led to the release of thousands of Democratic National Committee emails.

But the email is likely to be of keen interest to the Justice Department and congressional investigators, who are examining whether any of President Trump's associates colluded with the Russian government to disrupt last year's election. American intelligence agencies have determined that the Russian government attempted to sway the election in favor of Mr. Trump.

Alan Futerfas, the lawyer for the younger Mr. Trump, said his client had done nothing wrong but pledged to work with investigators if contacted.

"In my view, this is much ado about nothing. During this busy period, Robert Goldstone contacted Don Jr. in an email and suggested that people had information concerning alleged wrongdoing by Democratic Party front-runner, Hillary Clinton, in her dealings with Russia," he said to The Times in an email on Monday. "Don Jr.'s takeaway from this communication was that someone had information potentially helpful to the campaign and it was coming from someone he knew. Don Jr. had no knowledge as to what specific information, if any, would be discussed."

It is unclear whether Mr. Goldstone had direct knowledge of the origin of the damaging material. One person who was briefed on the emails said it appeared that he was passing along information that had been given to him by others.

It's bombshell o'clock again! If anyone thinks this is the only Russian connection to the Trump campaign then they haven't been paying much attention to the choking smoke and rising temperatures surrounding the Trump White House.

It keeps getting deeper and deeper every single day with this bunch of crooks and liars. Face it America, the swamp is in the White House and it needs to be drained in all due haste before it infects what's left of this nation's belief in our Constitution and loyalty to country over party.

Combing this emailish news with the confirmation from the oligarch Putin Pal connected Russian Pop Star Agalarov that he was Goldstone's contact who initiated the meeting, this puts Jr on the receiving end of said Putin Pal's ambitions.

"The involvement of the Agalarovs brings the meeting closer to both Trump's past business interests and to the Kremlin. Trump has spent time with both Emin Agalarov and his father, Aras -- appearing in a music video for the Russian musician, which was filmed at the Moscow Ritz-Carlton Hotel in 2013.

Meanwhile, the Agalarovs are also close to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Aras Agalarov's company has been awarded several large state building contracts, and shortly after the pageant, Putin awarded the elder Agalarov the "Order of Honor of the Russian Federation," a prestigious designation."

All stories Trump happen so quickly and are replaced with a newer, shinier scandal, but the chronology of events surrounding this one deserves a little more scrutiny.

Donald Trump Jr. met with the Kremlin representative on June 9th, 2016, according to the New York Times. The Kremlin rep had told him in advance that they meeting would be to discuss dirt on Hillary Clinton. Two days before that meeting, on June 7th, Donald Trump said the following during his New Jersey primary victory speech: "I am going to give a major speech on probably Monday of next week and we're going to be discussing all of the things that have taken place with the Clintons. I think you're going to find it very informative and very, very interesting" (transcript: Time Magazine). The "Monday" in question would have been June 12th.

So to put the timeline together: sometime before June 9th, the Kremlin rep told Donald Trump Jr that she would be giving him dirt on Hillary Clinton during their June 9th meeting. Then just before that meeting took place, Donald Trump publicly announced he would be revealing dirt on Hillary Clinton on June 12th. Then Trump Junior went into that Kremlin meeting and failed to get any dirt on Hillary. And then on June 12th, Trump Senior failed to reveal any dirt.

Trump's own words here are nearly a smoking gun....

Another piece of the chronology puzzle is that none of the DNC hacked emails were publicly released until after the June 9th meeting whether that be by design or coincidence. And this meeting was never confirmed by and was vehemently denied by multiple Trump officials including the POTUS himself until the NYT uncovered evidence and published it in the last week.

We spend hours delving into the treasonous behavior of Trump and expect that something will happen. Nothing will. He will spend the next 3-1/2 years flying around in Air Force 1 and having a great time. If he pisses off the American oligarchy then he will have problems but as we see, he has completely deserted his campaign promises and is now the lap dog of the oligarchs. Russian Dirt on Clinton? ‘I Love It,' Donald Trump Jr. Said

The June 3, 2016, email sent to Donald Trump Jr. could hardly have been more explicit: One of his father's former Russian business partners had been contacted by a senior Russian government official and was offering to provide the Trump campaign with dirt on Hillary Clinton.

The documents "would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father," read the email, written by a trusted intermediary, who added, "This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump."

If the future president's elder son was surprised or disturbed by the provenance of the promised material -- or the notion that it was part of an ongoing effort by the Russian government to aid his father's campaign -- he gave no indication.

He replied within minutes: "If it's what you say I love it especially later in the summer."

Four days later, after a flurry of emails, the intermediary wrote back, proposing a meeting in New York on Thursday with a "Russian government attorney."

Donald Trump Jr. agreed, adding that he would likely bring along "Paul Manafort (campaign boss)" and "my brother-in-law," Jared Kushner, now one of the president's closest White House advisers.

On June 9, the Russian lawyer was sitting in the younger Mr. Trump's office on the 25th floor of Trump Tower, just one level below the office of the future president.

The worst thing about all of this is that the neocons who are currently piling on the Trump administration are gaining legitimacy again. For all Trump's idiocies, he never had a hand in committing anything nearly as nefarious as the Iraq invasion.

Sorry but I missed the Articles of Impeachment passed by liberals in the House. - #53 | Posted by Danni at 2017-07-11 08:46 AM
Were you of the mistaken idea that the only liberals were the ones in the House?

Yeah, that should be our biggest concern at the moment, not Trump's sons and Campaign Manager meeting with Putin's rep in Trump Tower about Russian help against Clinton in the campaign.

Only members of the House vote on impeachment.

Donald Trump Jr.'s Two Different Explanations for Russian Meeting
www.nytimes.com

Saturday:

... It was a short introductory meeting. I asked Jared and Paul to stop by. We primarily discussed a program about the adoption of Russian children that was active and popular with American families years ago and was since ended by the Russian government, but it was not a campaign issue at the time and there was no follow up.

I was asked to attend the meeting by an acquaintance, but was not told the name of the person I would be meeting with beforehand....

Sunday:

... I was asked to have a meeting by an acquaintance I knew from the 2013 Miss Universe pageant with an individual who I was told might have information helpful to the campaign. I was not told her name prior to the meeting. I asked Jared and Paul to attend, but told them nothing of the substance....

So help me understand this...

During the height of candidate Trump's campaign, Donald Trump, Jr.,

on the advice of an "acquaintance" from a Miss Universe pageant three years prior,

set up a meeting at Trump Tower in NYC with someone he did not know,

also inviting Mr Kushner and Mr Manafort,

but not telling Mr Kushner or Mr Manafort what the meeting was about.

Yeah, that seems perfectly normal to me.

I call it shortsighted, partisan thrashing when blood is in the water.

Of course you do... because you are SO above all this partisan rancor.... well, at least that's how you like to portray yourself. The rest of us are talking about what actually happened and what it might mean for the immediate future.

#90 What a load of crap-- it is just a bunch of partisan sharks in a feeding frenzy. Granted, the Trump administration, being the doofuses that they are, are handing out plenty of bloody red meat.

Yes, colluding with a foreign government to subvert an American election is just a partisan feeding frenzy when people discover it and actually talk about it and what it might mean.

When did you become such a total bore? Oh yeah, when you tried to look like some deep thinker. It doesn't really fit you.

also inviting Mr Kushner and Mr Manafort,
but not telling Mr Kushner or Mr Manafort what the meeting was about.

He did tell them when he forwarded the emails to them:

After being informed that the Russian lawyer could not make the 3 p.m. time that had been proposed, and agreeing to move it forward by an hour, Donald Trump Jr. forwarded the entire email chain to Mr. Kushner's company work email, and to Mr. Manafort at his Trump campaign email.

Also, the emails show that they did know the name of the lawyer ahead of time as Goldstone emailed it to Don Jr so that she would be able to get through the security at Trump Tower:

Mr. Goldstone, in a June 7 follow-up email, wrote, "I will send the names of the two people meeting with you for security when I have them later today."

By that time, as the Republican nominee, Mr. Trump was already under the protection of the Secret Service and access to Trump Tower in New York was strictly controlled. Ms. Veselnitskaya told The Times that the person who accompanied her was an interpreter whom she declined to name.

- they did know the name of the lawyer ahead of time

And a simple Google search would have told them that she was a Russian propaganda director who had been denied a visa at one point and who was closely associated with Russian oligarchs.

Of course, them thar Russian and US oligarchs has gots to stick together!

Two articles today that specifically address the latest reporting including the emails. There are others on both sites that are from slightly different angles. Since they are written by professionals the articles don't come to concrete conclusions and lack the hysteria so many here revere.
