Donald Trump Jr., the president's son, has hired New York lawyer Alan Futerfas to represent him in connection with Russia-related investigations, the lawyer and Trump Jr.'s office said on Monday. Futerfas, a sole practitioner who specializes in criminal defense, would not say when he was retained or whether he had any input into the statements Trump Jr. made over the weekend about a meeting with a Russian lawyer.

There's something odd about this Donald Jr story. Why was it leaked by "three advisers to the White House" ( www.nytimes.com ). Usually I see attribution to ~two unnamed sources~ yet this time there are three, and willing to go on record as associated with the White House.

It almost seems like an intentional, planned leak. But why? Why would the White House want to get this story "out there?"

I suspect the WH wants to convince the base that they were setup by Clinton so no collusion.
It will be Clinton's fault they were caught exchanging microfilm.

To try to bury the story about the meeting being about Trump cancelling sanctions against Russia if Putin would help him win.

It does seem too good to be true. But, but in all things Russia, Donald Trump (and Familia) seems to be the gift that keeps on giving.

And Trump Jr. has confirmed this story by responding to it and attempting to lie it away.

He probably should have gotten that lawyer BEFORE he lied about it.

Here's the problem with the story: DT Jr admitted it.

And it might be illegal.

I'm assuming the atty got a hefty retainer plus up-front payments as they go.

Otherwise...

If he's smart he did. People named "Trump" have a bad reputation for stiffing people who work for them.

Donald Trump Jr.'s Choice of a Lawyer Raises Eyebrows on Late Night nyti.ms

"Donald Trump Jr. is being represented by a Mafia lawyer who has defended four New York crime families. So now the lawyer has updated his résumé to say he's defended five New York crime families." -- CONAN O'BRIEN

"Donald Jr. hired a lawyer yesterday. This lawyer in the past represented members of the Mafia, which actually makes sense. Because the Trumps are like the Corleone family -- if all of them were Fredo." -- JIMMY KIMMEL

"For so long, everyone was like, ‘Man there's so much smoke, there is so much smoke, but we don't know if there's a fire!' We're on the ground dying from smoke inhalation -- [coughs] ‘I just want to know if there's a fire!' [coughs] And today we're like, ‘Yes! It's a fire! I'm on fire! New problem -- but now I know the truth!'" -- TREVOR NOAH
