Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Former CIA Director John Brennan said in an exclusive interview on NBC's Meet the Press that he felt President Trump "ceded" ground to Russian President Vladimir Putin on issues concerning his country's interference in the U.S. presidential election. "I don't think he demonstrates good negotiating skills when it comes to Mr. Putin," said Brennan, who led the CIA from 2013 until January of this year. Brennan brought up Trump's comments about feeling "honored" to meet Putin on sidelines of the G-20 meeting in Germany Friday. "He said it's an honor to meet the individual who carried out the assault on our election? To me, it's a dishonorable thing to say," he added. In a series of tweets Sunday morning, Trump floated the idea of working with the Russians on cyber-security, writing, "Putin & I discussed forming an impenetrable Cyber Security unit so that election hacking, & many other negative things, will be guarded."

Brennan said comments like these certainly indicate the president "doesn't take the word of the intelligence community ... he continually questioned the intelligence community's high confidence assessment that Russia interfered" with the 2016 election.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., also on Meet the Press, said Trump's tweet was "not the dumbest idea I've ever heard but it's pretty close."

Sen. Marco Rubio tweeted, "While reality & pragmatism requires that we engage Vladimir Putin, he will never be a trusted ally or a reliable constructive partner ... Partnering with Putin on a 'Cyber Security Unit' is akin to partnering with Assad on a 'Chemical Weapons Unit.'"

Trump was honored that Putin would werk so hard to help him win the election.

I doubt he "caved". He probably spoke about a bunch of nonsense, and then did with Putin what he does with the rest of us. Namely, lie. And then declare a victory. I doubt anything of substance was "agreed upon". At least not "agreed upon" in a way which will prevent Trump from changing his position 24 hours later. In short, really nothing was probably accomplished other than Putin getting a firsthand dose of the incompetent buffoon now occupying the White House.

Trump accepts Putin's offering at face value. I'm certain Trump is just as trusting and accepting of those who tell him something which is inconvenient. Then again, not everyone caries the moral superiority of a Vladimir Putin.

Never liked Lil Marco but this deserved repeating: "Partnering with Putin on a 'Cyber Security Unit' is akin to partnering with Assad on a 'Chemical Weapons Unit.'"

"Trump accepts Putin's offering at face value."

But, does not accept the assessment of his own intelligence agencies at face value.

Very Interesting.

"election hacking, & many other negative things, will be guarded." I think he said more than he meant to say, when you stop and think about it.

More concretely, it would be like Obama partnering with Putin on Assad's chemical weapons unit. Or partnering with the UN.

It would almost be partnering with Marco Rubio to mitigate climate change.
