Juri Rescheto, DW: Boredom is the biggest killer, in both love and politics. This proved to be a lesson for Russians following the collapse of the Soviet Union. After long years of stagnation, things took off with a bang. And, as Mikhail Gorbachev famously put it, "life punishes those who come too late ... " Since then, boredom has been a stranger to the biggest country in the world. Turbo-capitalism and guided democracy, judicial scandals and corruption, human rights and homophobia, Crimea, Syria, the Donbass. However, even a state's supposed achievements and its president's victories cannot solve the problem of boredom when this same president has been in power too long.

[N]ot only does the question of whether Putin will run for president again in 2018 remain unanswered, so does -- above all -- the question of the country's future. No more and no less. No vision, no strategy. No idea, either, of what Russia intends to offer its young people, to whom this future belongs, and who are becoming increasingly discontented with their country and its head of state. Young people who therefore see themselves forced to defend their chance of a future by taking to the streets.

The real question is are the elections fake. If America had helped rushia reform itself into a real country after the collapse like we did with japan they would not be having these problems now. But at the time we had a pro socialist democrat in office and we did not help. So what we have now is a kgb officer trying to restore the old USSR. It was Clinton fault and someone else will have to fix his mistakes.

Sorry but the complete ignorance and partisanship of that statement just sort of floors me. Japan (and Germany) did not collapse - we defeated them in war and occupied them. In other words they had no choice. Same for Afghanistan and Iraq - those didn't go so well... Can you actually name one country we didn't invade and helped rebuild?

Oh and when the final collapse happened - Clinton still wasn't in office so the rebuilding was already under way - so where was Bush? But in all honesty the collapse had been going on for years already. So where was Bush helping all these countries? Do you actually think they would have welcomed American interference? It would have set us up as the continuing enemy. Collapse or not you don't strip the corruption from the system just like that. The people we would have been working with were all a product of a highly corrupt system. Look around the world - like look at Afghanistan corruption. It was and remains rampant, why do you think the Taliban is so strong?

The former Soviet Union ("rushia" ???) collapsed in 1991:

On December 25, 1991, the Soviet hammer and sickle flag lowered for the last time over the Kremlin, thereafter replaced by the Russian tricolor.
Bill Clinton didn't take office until January 20, 1993.

As usual, you pull stuff out of your --- and expect others to accept it as fact.

Sure it was the democrat's fault. Not HW BUSH or Reagan because although the USSR came apart during their presidencies, they are republicans so nothing is ever their fault.

Clinton put the skidmarks in your underwear too.
