Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Saturday, June 17, 2017

After a story about disappearing Tangier Island aired on television June 9, President Trump made it a point to telephone the island's mayor, assuring him that sea level rise was nothing to worry about. Hmm, does Trump know something we don't know? Trump again showed his total disregard for climate science and deep-seated views on climate change on Monday when he actually called Tangier Island's Mayor, James "Ooker" Eskridge, reports Delmarva-Now ... Eskridge says Trump also addressed the issue of sea level rise and how it relates to Tangier Island. "He said not to worry about sea-level rise," Eskridge said. "He said, 'Your island has been there for hundreds of years, and I believe your island will be there for hundreds more."

The bottom line is this - Tangier Island, like other islands in the Chesapeake Bay and thousands of islands around the world, is going to disappear due to rising sea levels. It could happen within the next 30 or 40 years or even sooner. It depends on the whims of the extreme weather the planet now faces every year.

It'll be there alright. Under water, but still there. Just remember to hold your breath.

For some reason reminds me of an old Joke.

Big flood, guys house is half under water.
Boat comes by to rescue him.
Guy says no thanks, God will save him.
Few hours later the water is up to the 2nd floor.
Another boat comes by, again the man says thanks but no thanks, God will save me.
Another few hours pass, water is almost covering the whole house & the guy is now on the roof on the last bit not under water.
Helicopter comes, again he refuses to be rescued claiming God will rescue him.
Eventually the man drowns and then goes to heaven where he asked why he was left to drown.

God replies, what do you mean I left you to drown? I sent two boats and a helicopter.

We all think you're doing a good job President Trump, glub, glub, glub, gasp. Sorry, I had to come up for air. A very good job and we're pretty sure we're all developing gills.

Maybe the mayor should be talking to the Chinese about building another island.

Well great! If they don't think climate change is a problem we can spend the money that might have gone to help them on somebody with more sense. Let them sink.

Why is this news?

Marsh islands like this one are sinking in Louisiana too because the flow of the Mississippi has been controlled for over 150 years. Add straight and deep canals that allow the tide to come in and out quickly and fast erosion occur. Add to that that sea level has been rising for centuries....

Why is this news?

Wait.

Are you saying that Trump is God?

Or, are you saying that the Federal Government can stop the sea level from rising?

@#6 ... why would the mayor bother to take trump's call. ...

If you had read the article, you would know that the mayor apparently is a yuuugggeee fan of Pres Trump.

...[Mayor] Eskridge recounted that he told the president: 'The stuff you are doing is just common-sense stuff.' I said, 'I believe you're for the working man -- and you want people to get back to work -- you're for the military, and Israel and religious liberties -- It's all the stuff that we value.' I said, 'I believe you came along for such a time as this." ...

Trumps the one who doesn't think it's a problem. By that logic WE should sink.

Probably not entirely but if we could reduce the amount of carbon going into the atmosphere we might be able to limit it, is your plan to not even try? The worst case scenario is that we would all get our energy from the sun. How is that a bad thing. No pollution, no streams full of coal refuse, no rivers polluted with oil? Exactly how is that a bad thing and please just don't tell me it can't give us the energy we need when cloudy Germany is taking half of the energy they need from the sun. Can you imagine the amounts of energy available in the United STates which has vast deserts, Texas and Florida. No, it's time to face the truth, the oil billionaires, like the Kochs, are trying to keep us dependent on fossil fuels even though it is totally unnecessary and even though solar and wind create more jobs than do fossil fuels and those jobs aren't under ground. You'd think that was a good thing.

If Mankind is causing any type climate change it really doesn't matter. After Gore's 20 year doomsday folly never happened, every projection is for 100 years or more, and those people will not be around when that date comes along. The truth is that in 100/200 years from now technology will be at the point that most energy will be clean and cheap. It's the hysteria from the left about it that puts doubts in peoples minds, many just accept it because someone like Gore or Bernie says its true. Sad

Wouldn't it be ironic if Blake or Last Teajadist lived in their mom's basement on that island? They'd believe Trump.

Except if we wait for technology to become cheap and clean, we're going to put too much C02 in to the environment in the meantime. Stick to commenting on things you know about. YOu're in way over your head with science.

Funny how repubs are willing to do ANYTHING to stop the TINY threat of terrorism, but not willing to do do anything to stop the REAL threat of climate change.

Well, not really FUNNY, more like MORONIC.

And why do you think that is? Is it because Conservatives brought back coal jobs? Or because Liberals fought for ideas that combat climate change?

In the 80's the thinking was that this island was sinking, has the consensus changed? Or is it both sinking and the water level is rising?
