Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, May 18, 2017

Roger Ailes, who transformed cable news and then American politics by building Fox News into a ratings powerhouse, died Thursday. He was 77. ... Ailes was arguably the most powerful man in American media when he suddenly lost his job last summer. Gretchen Carlson, a former Fox anchor, sued him for sexual harassment, and other women came forward to support her claims. Carlson settled with 21st Century Fox, the network's parent company, for $20 million.

His departure was only the beginning of a troubled period for the network. Bill O'Reilly, its pugnacious prime time star, was forced out in April after The New York Times reported that Fox News had paid $13 million to settle claims from five women of inappropriate behavior.

He didn't want to live long enough to watch Trump ultimately destroy the fiction he spent decades building.

May he find the peace he didn't allow others.

Let's not get carried away eulogizing one of the most harmful forces in our politics for a quarter century.

I'm not going to express gladness at this event -- it's a sad day for the people who loved him.

But what he did to the country over his long career at Fox News was vile.

She was somehow involved and who could blame her, Roger Ailes focused so much hate on her during her entire life that I would not blame her if she was celebrating. He made her life unbearable for most human beings and she must be awfully strong to have endured. Have a toast Hillary, enjoy. You deserve it.

If not for the sexual harassment stuff, i would have cut him some slack.

I can allow him to have his own evil politics. That's what america is all about. Then i will only insult him about his politics, but this is personal, not political.

This whole attitude of powerful males (who are supposed to be patriarchs) using sex and using woman and using people is one thing that wingnuts want to hold on to. It's part of their symbolic status. And it's not just white christian guys either. This evil is universal. What's the first thing a black guys does when he signs a billion dollar contract with the nba or nfl? Yes, he goes and buys a white supermodel wife.

It's this hypocracy that must be ended. It's the hypocracy to stand up and say you are doing the work of jesus and then go behind the scenes and violate someone's humanity.

To Danni's point (notice the publication date on this story):

Trump Associates Said to Have Helped Roger Ailes Target His Enemies
Mathew Ingram
May 15, 2017

As a federal investigation continues into how Fox News handled financial payments to alleged sexual harassment victims of Roger Ailes, the actions of the network's former chairman appear to have implicated two senior associates of President Donald Trump.
One of those people is Roger Stone, a longtime political consultant and confidant of Trump. The other is Steve Bannon, the former chairman of the right-wing site Breitbart News, who is now a senior strategic adviser to the president.

Both men allegedly helped Ailes go after certain people he perceived as enemies, according to a report by Politico.

It's fitting that some right wingers are using Ailes' death to feed their sense of victimization. Fox News was all about telling right wingers all day long that they were victims. Every day a new outrage-- even Christmas was part of the conspiracy to punish the people who've suffered most in our country's history, conservative white Christians.

He was more powerful than any elected politician.

He was more powerful as the man behind the scenes. Once we realized he was just a man subject to the human condition just like rest of us and not a wizard he lost his power.

And once he was found to have flaws like so many other men he lost his job, too.

I feel bad for him as a soul for if the soul continues forever I doubt his will be able to Rest In Peace for long.

Sad day for Trump, I'm sure as he lost a close friend and confidante:

Donald Trump lunched with Fox's Roger Ailes

By Dylan Byers 07/08/2015 04:12 PM EDT

Donald Trump and Fox News chief Roger Ailes met privately for lunch at the 21st Century Fox headquarters in Manhattan in late June, just eight days after Trump announced his bid for the presidency, the On Media blog has learned.

The lunch, held on June 24 in the dining room at 1211 Avenue of the Americas, was an informal meeting among friends, sources with knowledge of the meeting said. Still, Trump and Ailes discussed aspects of the 2016 presidential campaign at length.

Trump and Ailes have been friends for more than 25 years and talk and correspond frequently, the sources said. Ailes has also talked or met with various Republican and Democratic candidates this cycle, as in previous cycles.

All that money he made by conning and screwing americans for the benefit of the rich isn't going to prevent him from going to hell.

It's just too bad he won't be around to see trump fall. Maybe that's why he died. Repubs are in such denial about the consequences of their actions, and so stubborn about admitting mistakes, that dying might be preferred to saying "I was wrong."

Whatever. He's not in a better place now.

Ailes' objective was to divide the masses, turn our differences into a festering wound, and set the table for the rise of a nationalistic charlatan who would fit into his narrative that we must return to the "good old days" of patriarchy and hatred of otherness. That he and his protege sexually women is no surprise. He was not a nice man.

Yeah he was fat and died from a fall, but he won.

He succeeded in his objectives, and he is a large part of the downfall of our country and the rise of idiocy as a political strategy.

Libs can gloat all we want, but ailes destroyed most liberal progress in america. He's dead but his damage will continue.

It's stupid but it's part and parcel of this place.

No. It is fitting. Ailes is responsible for a large majority of the misinformation and propaganda of our lifetime. In my opinion, Goebbels had to move out of his bunk to make room for Ailes. Now that he's gone, I hope the whole propaganda machine starts to fall, and with it the GOP.

Good riddance.

The Roger Ailes Playbook, as written by Joseph Goebbels:

"A lie told once remains a lie but a lie told a thousand times becomes the truth"

"There was no point in seeking to convert the intellectuals. For intellectuals would never be converted and would anyway always yield to the **er, and this will always be "the man in the street." Arguments must therefore be crude, clear and forcible, and appeal to emotions and instincts, not the intellect. Truth was unimportant and entirely subordinate to tactics and psychology."

"Propaganda works best when those who are being manipulated are confident they are acting on their own free will."

"If you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it, and you will even come to believe it yourself."

"Propaganda must facilitate the displacement of aggression by specifying the targets for hatred."

"This is the secret of propaganda: Those who are to be persuaded by it should be completely immersed in the ideas of the propaganda, without ever noticing that they are being immersed in it."

"Not every item of news should be published. Rather must those who control news policies endeavor to make every item of news serve a certain purpose."

"The essence of propaganda consists in winning people over to an idea so sincerely, so vitally, that in the end they succumb to it utterly and can never escape from it."

ALL of that equals hitler. Trump followed his campaign playbook.

The reason you're so upset by the comparison is because you know it's true, and no one wants to admit that the same thing that happened to the germans could happen to us.

And then there's this:

"Of all the crazy revelations about Donald Trump, arguably the one that seems most alarming, is that he has a fondness for reading Hitler speeches."

We call that a lack of attention to detail.

It is one of the reasons why they are taken in by Fox's fake news all the time. Fishpuke has no ability to discern the truth due a lack of attention to detail.

Absolutely. Unless you are dumb enough to think that there is something that only existed in german DNA in the 1930's that made them susceptible to a nationalist megolomaniac candidate.

We're all humans all made of the same stuff. If it can happen to germans it can happen to americans. To think it can't is anti-scientific, anti-historic, and childish.

Trump's election proves I'm right. All we can do is cross our fingers that republicans don't let him drag us down the same path, but they might think it's worth it if their billionaire puppetmasters can get tax cuts out of it all.

"The Difference Between the Two Main Types of Populism

Right-wing populism favors small groups and inequality (which can manifest as protectionism, nativism, nationalism, and xenophobia; which can look like activist social conservatism or even fascism).

Left-wing populism favors equality and big groups (which can manifest as socially minded globalization and a socially minded welfare state; which can look like progressive social liberalism, social democracy, or even socialism).

In other words, while they are both anti-elitist collectivist movements, the key difference is one is socially conservative and focused on a small group and the other socially liberal and favors global social equality."
