Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, April 21, 2017

A highly unusual and racially charged episode from the 2016 campaign suddenly resurfaced this week when a federal judge whom President Donald Trump repeatedly criticized was assigned to hear the case of a man who claims he was improperly deported. Judge Gonzalo Curiel, who was born in the U.S. but is of Mexican heritage, was attacked by Trump last year over his handling of a lawsuit against Trump University. Trump claimed Curiel could not impartially hear the case because of his background and Trump's hardline immigration policies. The case was eventually settled. Now, Curiel is assigned to hear the case of Juan Manuel Montes Bojorquez, 23, who his lawyers allege was deported from California to Mexico earlier this year despite having active protection under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, also known as DACA.

Trump's comments toward Curiel last year -- he called the Indiana-born judge a "hater" and a "Mexican" -- drew some of the loudest accusations of racism that the then-candidate faced during his campaign and several repudiations from prominent Republicans.

Who assigns these cases? Is he the only Federal judge in the nation?

Oh, he's liberal and will vote against Trump. Now I understand why he got this case..

The judge hasn't even heard the case yet Boaz is already judging the judge. Laughable and sad too.

Y'know, for once a judge should not worry about being judicious. Curiel should just a send a big "---- you" to Trump in a scathing opinion. Let it be overturned by a higher court if necessary. But Trump just dumps on people and expects them to meekly take it. Time for one of his victims to lash back. IMO.

Boaz once again talks out of his wherever.

Here's the facts about Curiel. He originally became a federal prosecutor under the George H.W. Bush administration and his first judicial appointment was made by Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was one of only two district court nominees out of 17 total whose nomination was not filibustered by the GOP minority of Congress in 2012.

#9, #10,

So? Why is this idiot judge getting the case? We know he's going to be biased. This case needs to go to a more neutral judge.

If the law was followed, most liberal policies wouldn't make it to fruition.

Why is this idiot judge getting the case?

are assigned by random draw.

Exactly where in the Constitution is the part that says International Law Trumps Domestic Law? Actually, I think there is something in there that says just the opposite.

As for the illegal alien, he crossed an international border illegally. That is a crime. The fact that he got away with it for so long only adds to the crime. Any executive order signed and enacted by a POTUS is only good as long as that POTUS is in the White House. Immigration Law falls specifically under the purview of Congress. The illegal alien is more than welcome to go to Mexico and get in line if he wants to come here permanently.

Yes, Judge Curiel is an activist. Check out his speeches and where he has donated his time and money. However, whether he brings that activism into the court room is still in question. It may appear so. But it is, as of yet, unconfirmed.

I dunno, about all that! If you head on over to the Ukraine thread, you'll see it's okay for the Russian army to cross the international border illegally...

More like, collection of corrupt despots. This is what the SJWs want, as evidenced by their chant of "no borders, no nations": the sacrifice of national sovereignty to the "international community."

How about you google what happens to countries that violate its standards? Sanctions, international condemnation, even military action tend to result.... if the country isn't a hegemonic power like the US, that is. The US gets to content itself with the relatively mild consequences of increasingly acknowledged global pariah status... while "servants of the law" such as yourself loudly pretend that such things don't matter.

It's rotational as they come in.

It wouldn't have gone to him because the Judge pool is small, but the Republicans have been refusing to confirm judges for the last 8 years.

Too bad. So sad.
