Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, April 20, 2017

BBC: The political economist Benjamin Friedman once compared modern Western society to a stable bicycle whose wheels are kept spinning by economic growth. Should that forward-propelling motion slow or cease, the pillars that define our society -- democracy, individual liberties, social tolerance and more -- would begin to teeter. Our world would become an increasingly ugly place, one defined by a scramble over limited resources and a rejection of anyone outside of our immediate group. Should we find no way to get the wheels back in motion, we'd eventually face total societal collapse.

Such collapses have occurred many times in human history, and no civilisation, no matter how seemingly great, is immune to the vulnerabilities that may lead a society to its end. Regardless of how well things are going in the present moment, the situation can always change. Putting aside species-ending events like an asteroid strike, nuclear winter or deadly pandemic, history tells us that it's usually a plethora of factors that contribute to collapse. What are they, and which, if any, have already begun to surface? It should come as no surprise that humanity is currently on an unsustainable and uncertain path -- but just how close are we to reaching the point of no return?

I am so ready for this. After a childhood of being told "It's wrong to eat people" - imagine my surprise - now I finally get to lead my band of mutant cannibal rock-n-roll outlaw car and biker gangs into destiny.

Leather, and metal, will bring us all together. But it takes anarchy to set us free.

Currently the US growth rate is 1.2% which corresponds to a GDP doubling rate of 58 years. This means twice as many cars, houses, mineral and oil extraction, food supply, jobs and pollution of our air and water. But this is a historically terrible growth rate. At 3% growth rate the doubling rate is 23 years. At 4% growth rate the doubling rate is 17 years. China's 10% growth rate has a GDP doubling rate of 7 years. Either we plan for this by curbing population growth and developing a shrinking economy or we will destroy ourselves as surely as the inhabitants of Easter Island. There are numerous examples of social and economic collapse.

I would expect that any US collapse would trigger a global crash. then Helter Skelter breaks out with warring regional and local factions, scarce resources, and roving bands of Helium Rats.

I'm hoping for the Yellowstone Super Volcano. people can pull together for that kind of thing.

"I'm hoping for the Yellowstone Super Volcano"

Most of the states buried under ash would be red.

That is why we have economic mini-collapses now about every 5 - 10 years.

Dumping the economy is the pressure regulator on the pressure cooker.

However, there is something else....

If we were in the year 1600, we would not understand anything that wasn't agrarian based. Look at the industries we have now. Only about 5% are agrarian based.

So, in other words, this article is just saying that everything the Democrats believe in is what will cause the destruction of society. Yeah...not biased at all. They actually tried to relate protectionism as one of the MAJOR precursors for American collapse. I mean, there are definitely negatives to halting immigration and such but even the most biased person has to look at this article and wonder where these nutcase "scientists" came from. I can understand arguing the point and saying America is a nation of immigrants and we should still be. That's at least a valid and relevant argument. But saying immigration control will be a major contributor to America's decline, or any society's decline, is probably one of the worst claims I've heard by reporting media in a long time...which says a lot considering the abundance of dung being spewed by Trump and many others.

In fact, the only thing contradictory to Democrat talking points is "Similarly, about half the world's population lives on less than $3 per day." Which, we all know is absolutely not true because Democrats have been trying to convince America for a couple decades now that America's poor are the worst-off people in the universe and their existence is far more torture than anyone else in every planet on Earth. So, I assume they just added that statement to try to make the article more believable. Shame.

Of course, I agree with the article.

The only question is, do we want to halt immigration to stem the tide of gangs we are going to have to fight later? If America devolves, certain sections are going to band together and take over certain sections of the nation. Mass killings. Much death. Old scores will be settled. Only the strongest and best armed will survive. Women will go back to being possessions. Only those people with the most critical skills will survive. The rest will be subjugated.

And liberalism will die. Because as we all know, a liberals point of view cannot exist without someone else to execute it with violence.
