Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Bess Levin, Vanity Fair: It's been a rough few months for Donald Trump, between his failure to scrap Obamacare, his botched travel bans, and those bad hombres in Mexico not paying for his border wall. Getting him through it all, though, in addition to his weekly trips to Mar-a-Lago, was a Tom Brady-shaped light at the end of the tunnel. The New England Patriots are visiting the White House on Wednesday to fête their big Super Bowl win, and you just know Trump had been looking forward to seeing his favorite quarterback, circling the date in his calendar and working Tom's name into unrelated conversations. ("As my good friend Tom Brady would say, Mr. Xi, it's time to throw some bombs.") ...
In a statement released Thursday morning, Brady said that "recent developments" and "personal family matters" would prevent him from making an appearance with his team.

Trump and Brady's friendship goes back to 2002, when the football player judged one of Trump's beauty pageants.

Before Jared Kushner came along, Trump seemingly wanted to make a son-in-law of Brady via Ivanka's hand in marriage. He also dropped Brady's name on the campaign trail, insisting that "[Brady] loves me."

Brady returned the favor, keeping a "Make America Great Again" hat in his locker, even if his support was always sort of ambiguous.

All I have to do is post a thread to have a sheep be the next poster. Rarely ever fails to wag, that tail.

The only thing that matters is the hag isn't there waiting on them.

Doubtful Brady had a change of heart. This is a PR move. He doesn't like to be criticized and his relationship with Trump has created criticism.

The way I understand this change of heart, which many team mates followed, was Brady's wife hates Trump, a common attitude among intelligent women. This made Brady's wife happy and anyone that's been married knows what that means. Still most of the team showed up including Belichick.

I agree with Sully. It's about Brady personally distancing himself from him.

It's not about his wife.

I disagree with Brady. This is about the tradition of the winning team attending a visit to the WH. It's not about the president personally.

Despite what an asshat Trump is.....the WH is bigger than Trump as is the presidency itself.

Brady's mom is in town and is very ill. She has been and word is he does not want to leave her.

Tradition doesn't matter now that Trump is prez. Good for Brady, although if I was in his place I would have gone and given Trump the ol' stinkpalm or spit in his lemonade like a modern day Celie Johnson.

And if Brady was in your place he'd be unemployed, married to Rosie Palm and living in his Mom's basement.
