A Maryland man was arrested Friday and charged with cyberstalking after allegedly tweeting an animated strobe image to a journalist with epilepsy. The flashing image sent to Kurt Eichenwald, a Newsweek senior writer and Vanity Fair contributing editor, on December 15 came with the message: "You deserve a seizure for your post," according to the criminal complaint. ... The FBI and police in Maryland and Dallas, where Eichenwald resides, investigated the case and arrested John Rayne Rivello, 29, on Friday.

The Twitter account belonging to Rivello allegedly contained direct messages sent to other users regarding Eichenwald with statements like, "I hope this sends him into a seizure," "Spammed this at (victim) let's see if he dies," and "I know he has epilepsy," according to the allegations in an affidavit that was unsealed Friday.

The .gif had to clicked in order to animate. And it says "this will give you seizures" on the .gif. And Eichenwalds post that night are him bragging about being drunk and having stayed awake for 2 days, which people who are peone to seizures know better...

While the perp is in jail and haters like you applaud him. Sick. For the most part, most of your posts have a sick lean.

That's not true. Videos and GIFs autoplay unless you go into Settings, Accessibility and turn that functionality off.

It was nice of this jerk to put evidence of his attack in his Twitter direct messages and on Apple iCloud. I hope he's successfully prosecuted for a heinous and intentional assault on a person with epilepsy.

What the hell is wrong with you? This Twitter troll targeted someone with epilepsy to have a seizure and said he hoped it killed him and you're defending that.

I have a brother who suffers from epilepsy, fortunately not grand mal seizures but still, anyone trying to bring on a seizure is a sick demon. I hope this perp serves real time, he deserves it.

He's an avid Trump supporter.

I'm pretty sure they have some sort of daily scumbag moment quota they have to fulfill.

He's lucky he wasn't charged with attempted murder, seems like plenty of premeditation. Maybe the FBI charged him with what they could. I wonder why they didn't charge him under the terrorism statute, if it had been a radicalized Muslim sending the gif to a Faux Spews contributor with epilepsy, it would have been major terrorism news. This is also terrorism, since he was promoting a political agenda, and using terror to accomplish it. I guess it's Comb-over Caligula's FBI now.

More charges are coming from Dallas police, so maybe there will be an assault charge or worse.

Intentionally trying to induce a seizure in an epileptic is a pretty serious assault. People die from seizures. I'd compare it to intentionally exposing someone with a deadly peanut allergy to peanuts, and that has resulted in murder or attempted murder charges before.
