Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Prime Minister Mark Rutte's center-right party is celebrating a resounding win Wednesday in The Netherlands over populist Geert Wilders' party -- a result cheered by centrists and progressives in France and Germany, which also hold elections this year. The decisive victory follows months of polls that suggested either a Wilders victory or at least a tight outcome in a campaign dominated by talk of immigration and anti-European Union sentiment. "In interviews across the country in the past week, even Wilders' supporters found some of his rhetoric too incendiary," NPR's Frank Langfitt reported from Holland on Wednesday, "including his suggestions that the Netherlands kick some Moroccans out of the country."

Proof that 'Murica is dumber than the rest of the world.

Now if Le Pen loses too it will be great!

The French are stupid too. After all, they once let Hitler goose-step around in Paris. I wouldn't be surprised if they elected LePen, although the French also deserve everything they get.

My Dutch relatives are thankful that Trump had a couple of months to reveal his incompetence and evil intentions. They are sorry for the US though.

Well...the Dutch have a good education system so it stands to reason...

That's probably why Rs want to gut public education in the US.

Just listened to NPR piece about why Spain doesn't have a far right movement today. It was interesting. Most of it ties back to them still remembering what it was like to live under a far right dictator. They aren't happy about a lot of the same things Americans are but they know the far right is not the answer.

A small glimmer of hope in what is appearing more and more like the beginnings of a new "dark age".

Don't breath a sigh of relief yet. There are 13 major parties in the Netherlands. Wilder's is one of the biggest now. No one even comes close to a majority. The Muslim minority is the best recruiting tool he has in his arsenal. A few more murders, a few more rapes, and the tide might turn. What you might have to be reminded of is the Parliament gets majority by coalitions on issues, not on party lines. Wilder has come to the front on a single issue, immigration. He might get some of what he wants.

Many Dutch remember occupation by the Nazis, their Dutch collaborators and the persecution of a religious minority. They are still the majority in the Netherlands.

#12 | Posted by bored, You need to review your history. Collaborators after the liberation had one of two things happen to them. If it was a woman, she got her head shaved publicly. If it was a man, the resistance took them out of town and shot them. The only ones that survived were the ones that evacuated to Germany. So much for Dutch tolerance. Besides Wilder has never said "lets persecute the Muslims". What he did say is that the Netherlands have more than enough Muslim immigrants,(16%) and those who do not want to be Dutch, need to leave. Norway kicked out a third of theirs, and crime went down 20% immediately. Sweden and Denmark look like they may soon follow suit. France and Germany are getting to that point too. Le Penn is not a freak, she is a reaction. Remember over 300 French have died in the last year from Muslim attacks.

"multiculturalism is a failure in Europe". That's is a quote from Angela Merkel, the head of the government in Germany.

That could turn it in the nationalist conservative direction, but trump screwing up america could turn it back towards lefist socialism.

Trump is likely scaring all the countries that were THINKING of electing isolationist racists into second guessing that choice. They see that when these idiots take office, they start doing idiotic things.

#15 | Posted by SpeakSoftly Maybe people who advocate open borders and allow thousands of hostile, ignorant and unskilled individuals to come to their country unabated. Idiotic is as idiotic does. Most Dutch do not like Wilder. They dislike being robbed, assaulted and molested on their own streets even less.

#17 | Posted by donnerboy Why not go to a Muslim neighborhood or a refugee camp around any major city in Europe and see what happens. Especially at night.

#13 my wife is Dutch, you sound like your ancestry is German. Nazis are not to be tolerated.
Wilders wants to close all mosques in the Netherlands, that's persecution.
Flush your brain, it is plugged with crap.
