"Donald Trump once said he identified with Ayn Rand's character Howard Roark in "The Fountainhead," an architect so upset that a housing project he designed didn't meet specifications he had it dynamited." And he's not the only randoid in the White House or DC.
"What did Rand admire so much about Hickman?
His sociopathic qualities: "Other people do not exist for him, and he does not see why they should," she wrote, gushing that Hickman had "no regard whatsoever for all that society holds sacred, and with a consciousness all his own. He has the true, innate psychology of a Superman. He can never realize and feel 'other people.'"
This echoes almost word for word Rand's later description of her character Howard Roark, the hero of her novel The Fountainhead: "He was born without the ability to consider others." (The Fountainhead is Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas' favorite book -- he even requires his clerks to read it.)"

The Rand philosophy is the excuse needed by the 1% to justify their hoarding of wealth while buying Congress to give them tax cuts. Without that philosophy guilt could creep into their minds over their greed but even a very silly novel is enough justification for their selfishness to satisfy their atrophied consciences. A conscience is like a brain is like a muscle...use it or lose it.
ddan, you nave no clue about Ayn Rand. In fact you are clueless about anything to do with economics.
And Corky, don't forget, Rand retired on SS and accessed Medicare for herself. She was just as big a hypocrite as are her followers today. Paul Ryan for example.

Both of which she paid into. It was her money.
"Rand retired on SS and accessed Medicare for herself. She was just as big a hypocrite as are her followers today"
It's not the hypocrisy, it's the sheer stupidity.
Ayn Rand has raised up a generation of poorly educated Useful Idiots for the right-wing to herd and exploit.
Ayn Rand, whom most of us first encounter in high school, is the gateway drug to economic nationalism and class warfare; overwhelmingly it's white boys who are drawn to it.
It's all an elaborate economic rape fantasy. You can tell it's a legitimate rape because there are no children in any of her works.
"Both of which she paid into. It was her money."
She got out more than she paid in, and she said those taxes were theft.
Sho, she let the government act as a fence and steal other people's money for her benefit.
You probably do the same; I can't imagine you've paid more then a few bucks into the retirement programs that support you today. But I don't grudge you for that, I think everyone should get SSI.
The Rand philosophy is the excuse needed by the 1% to justify their hoarding of wealth while buying Congress to give them tax cuts.
The crony capitalists are the villain of the piece.
That said the fact that the qualities Rand idolized are the same qualities that make one a sociopath should make you seriously question her work.
"He can never realize and feel 'other people.'"
This is the distinguishing mark of the rwing and their policies... it's also a well-known mark of sociopaths.
"The crony capitalists are the villain of the piece."
Find me a capitalist in the real world who doesn't have any cronies.
That's the problem with Ayn Rand. It's a fantasy world.
Imagine an America in fifty years where all the Millennials tried to run a goverment based on Harry Potter novels.
That would be the utopian version of this country's present-day dystopic GOP --------.
Snoof of course it's fantasy and of course you shouldn't try and run a country on fantasy principals. I'll try and tell the randoids you try and tell the communists.
More importantly though a country shouldn't be run on principals developed by a sociopath. At least Marx had that going for him. (From the best I can glean reading about him)
