Florida Senator Marco Rubio promotes regime change in Venezuela, "if they decide to protect the people & restore democracy by removing a dictator." Venezuela jut happens to have the largest oil reserves of any country on the planet. But the Organization of American States has been negotiating for two years, with representatives of Venezuela's government and right-wing opposition parties, meeting in the Dominican Republic, and had reached an agreement. It called for "rejection of foreign intervention," electoral guarantees, common defense against economic sanctions, an "end of economic warfare", and a date for the upcoming presidential election. Then Julio Borges (representing the opposition right wing) was ordered to call off the agreement by Tillerson. Polling data gives President Maduro a 55% advantage, so there must not be another election.
The Black Alliance for Peace has received troubling news of an impending military assault on the sovereign nation of Venezuela by states and forces allied with the United States.
The objective is to remove the elected government of Venezuela and turn over the country to the right-wing oligarchy. This move is in line with the strategic objective of the last two U.S. administrations that identified Venezuela as a threat to U.S. national interests, which means the Venezuelan process is seen as a threat to the interest of the Euro-American colonial/capitalist project.
Only greedmeisters opt for more wars. Look what a mess we're making, everywhere we step.
"Florida Senator Marco Rubio, never shy about regime change in Venezuela, tweeted that, "The world would support the Armed Forces in Venezuela if they decide to protect the people & restore democracy by removing a dictator."
As usual, Marco Rubio is full of crap. The world would condemn any invasion by the United States, we don't have any legal leg to stand on. All it would be is the restoration to power of the moneyed elite who ran the country before Chavez and a return to abject poverty for the vast majority so that the aristocratic minority could, again, suck up most of the profits from the nation's oil. As in Iraq, things can and will go wrong, we will be taking on the responsibility of supporting Venezuela for the foreseeable future, it will be very expensive and unpopular among the majority of the people of Venezuela.
This is perfect to make Donnie a War President for the next election. It's much less messy than nuking NK and possibly pissing off Jared's money men in China. It's closer, and hey, who would really care except for libruls?
I'm dumbfounded, you did not condemn this piece because of how I sourced it, even though counterpunch is an original source in only about half of their articles.
War is hell. War is a racket. Our recent wars have all been massive failures.
Leave Venezuela alone. We them as another example of what happens when left wing authoritarians run things.
I thought Iran was supposed to be next.
The Worse Deal Ever!
(well, except for Trump's 4 bankruptcies, they sucked, too)

We need them as a case study for why tying your economy to oil is a bad idea.
