Jared Kushner, who has worn dueling hats for more than a year as President Donald Trump's senior adviser and son-in-law, has been stripped of his access to the nation's top secrets, officials said Tuesday after his security clearance was downgraded. Kushner, along with other White House officials who had been operating on interim clearances, had their access altered last week after chief of staff John Kelly stipulated new changes to the security clearance system. Aides who previously operated on "top secret" interim clearances saw their access changed to "secret," a classification for less sensitive material.
"Before Kelly issued his memo, White House and Justice Department officials convened a conference call to see whether some of the outstanding background check investigations for officials on interim clearances could be completed quickly. That included Kushner, according to a person familiar with the call. In his memo, Kelly stated that all interim clearances would be discontinued in a week's time.
A separate conversation took place last week between Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and White House counsel Don McGahn about Kushner's clearance. Rosenstein explained on the call the clearance process for Kushner was still ongoing, according to a source familiar with the matter.
"The deputy attorney general has not referenced to the White House any specific concerns relating to this individual's security clearance process," Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores said."
Also, a Congressional Committee has set a deadline for Kushner to provide docs concerning interactions with Russians that he has so far refused to provide.
SO... if Kushner could even get a Sec Clearance, he would have one. But he can't and he doesn't.
"Now, what about Ivanka?"
Who has outraged millions by acting as if she is Sec. of State, negotiating with foreign leaders where she has no business even being in the room. This administration honestly thinks Trump is the King and Ivanka is a Royal Princess. Nothing could be more unAmerican.
Hmmm. At least three ways this could play out. The most popular flavors are
(1) Someone shares top secret info with Jared, and risks going to jail. While doing the perp walk, the patsy proclaims that he/she was simply following orders. Hijinks and an impeachment hearing both ensue
(2) Jared resigns and goes back to his troubled real estate baronet, hoping his Chinese connections cough up the money to buy out Vornado, pay down his existing debt and then re-fi the loan
(3) John Kelly is forced out, his decision on temporary clearances is reversed, Jared continues to get played by foreigners and Sarah Sanders becomes a piñata for the White House Press Corp for the foreseeable future, explaining why a person who cannot get a top secret clearance gets to see top secret documents
Good analysis, Catdog.
I hope this episode--along with all the HR disasters that have befallen this administration--illustrates to all the danger of a closed-circle approach to filling important positions in the federal hierarchy. Nepotism and patronage bring many risks. Throw in a narcissistic man-child at the top, and the risk is multiplied.
Only the....hahahaha...sorry....I was saying Only the be....hahahahahahahahaha...hold on, let me catch my breath.....hahahahahahahahahaha....ok, wait...ha....wait....hahahahaha.....ONLY THE BEST PEOPLE! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I notice none of the DR's favorite righties are here.
Or, as Cleavon Little once said so famously...
Hey, where all the white women [and men] at?
They are waiting for Rush or Sean or Alex to tell them that, "this anti-Semitic act will not stand!".
The big question:
Why has Kushner refused to turn over documents related to his activities with the Russians that were requested as part of his security clearance?
