Integrity First for America: White supremacist Richard Spencer recently filed a motion to dismiss a federal lawsuit that seeks to hold him responsible for the violence he caused in Charlottesville, Virginia, last August. Spencer argues that he can't find a lawyer to represent him because his case is too "controversial." He further claims that last summer's violent, hate-inspired rally should be accepted as the "cost of free assembly and maintaining a vibrant political culture." ... Although it is unfortunate that he cannot find legal representation, Spencer is not the victim here. The fact remains that he helped plan, promote and execute the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville that resulted in three deaths and countless injuries.
From an ideological perspective, I do not agree with Spencer. However, if he can't find a lawyer on his own, the court MUST appoint one. Our court system is to complex and its impact on people's lives to great to be unrepresented. After all, what is the point of being a country of laws if we aren't going to guarantee that those laws are applied fairly?
Fed: you have been watching too much television. A defendant in a criminal trial has the right to counsel appointed to represent him/her, but a plaintiff in a civil action does not. A licensed attorney cannot be compelled by the court to take on representation of a plaintiff when counsel believes he cannot faithfully serve the clients interest.
Spencer gets to play at being an attorney to press his case, likely because he cannot find someone stupid or crazy enough to do it for him...
Those of you who feel a lawyer should be compelled to assist Richard spencer should think back to the thread last week involving the baker who refused to make a cake for the homosexual wedding. Very different facts, but same general scenario.
"Spencer argues that he can't find a lawyer to represent him because his case is too "controversial.""
C'mon, if Trump can find a lawyer, surely this ------- can. My guess is that he wants the guy to work for free.
